Forgive the newbie here. I just picked up 2013 yesterday. Yes I've been using the search button.
I want an aftermarket slip on pipe. I'm not a racer. I don't want a full system Most important is sound. Nice note and not too loud and next is looks. I prefer the CF. I want to be heard but not annoy others and myself. I don't know how some guys can handle their noisy machines.
I had a yoshi rs 5 on my 2012 600rr and loved it. No silencer and to me was perfect for my criteria. I read they have a new unit. R-11? But I can't find it for sale. I'm between akra and yoshi . Not really interested in any others.
I'm not looking for more power but do you have to get it tuned to your bike for best results? Bazaaz? I've read about it but not sure exactly what it does.
Next is carbon fiber. I want a few pieces. I cannot remember who I used now for my 600 to save my life. I would like to use same company for all.
Again I know these are common questions and I have tried to find answers on search. I appreciate all feedback.
Before modifying your bike at all the best upgrade you can spend money on is a track day, no other purchase can match what you will gain from seat time and instruction on a closed course and I believe that's the best way to really learn a new bike especially when jumping up from a 600 to a liter bike.
Go with what slip on looks best cause except for the the really short ones they all sound pretty similar, especially if you are just doing a slip on.
As for tuning I'd recommend either a pcv or bazzaz even if you weren't gonna modify the exhaust or anything else because being able to find tune your fueling will give you a much smoother running bike, especially low speed throttle transitions. Plus there's ALWAYS more power to be had!!
Carbon fiber, hell I've seen some pretty good quality stuff on eBay for a reasonable prices, I have a few on my 06 and I'm happy with the quality. I'm planning on getting a lot more carbon fiber over the winter and every piece will be from eBay.
Step one to keeping yourself and bike in one piece: a safety course! Cheap, kinda fun, great way to learn things about your machine and how to work it in silly ways you never think about until you go for your next ride and it's better. Track time of any sort will put you in tune with your limits, comfort zone, and the bike's capabilities.
As for exhaust: do your thing. If you like the look, price, and sound, go for it. I'm not a hippy who says everyone gets a participation trophy, but in reality, there isn't much performance difference between the main companies, it's mostly the sound and appearance.
IntRRovert, if you have nothing good or constructive to say about anything anyone else does, especially when they ask honest questions, feel free to log out.
Introvert really has nothing constructive to say at all. OP is asking for a slip on. No gains to be made I know he wants something to sound decent I get that. As stock it sounds good. I'm saying if it's just for looks save your money and put it to something else. I'm giving an honest opinion.
First of all. I'm a newbie here, I'm not a newbie to motorcycling. I raced motocross into my 30s. I took a required Florida safety and licensing course May 2014, the same time I purchased my first street bike. A 2012 600rr. I thought that could be deduced from my first post. Or from my profile. I appreciate the concern for my safety and welfare.
I didn't ask anyone whether its money well spent to modify my bike. Spare me your opinions. Just move on.
I was looking for feedback and I had direct questions. I understand not everyone wants to answer the same questions over and over. If you don't , move on. There would be little need for a blog if everyone used the search button. I wanted some current thoughts on pipes for current models and names of quality carbon fiber companies. I asked about mapping the engine. I'm not a mechanic!
I thought I would get some answers from other enthusiasts. Suggestion: Stick to the OP question.
Try the exhaust flapper mod first (takes 10 min.), you might be happy with that sound. If not then go for aftermarket. Can't give you brand suggestion as I rock a wake the dead Voodoo.
I have the Yoshi r77 on my '14. nice rumble at idle and throaty down low. Comes alive at 7K and screams like a GP bike above 10K. I chose the stainless with the CF tip because that's the look I preferred. Fit and finish were excellent and it even included the additional fairing to cover the mid-pipe. I found the model number on Yoshi's site then searched the web that way. Found one that was obviously mis-priced at $525 but they shipped my order no questions.
Like has been said before in this thread, a few times, there ain't much difference between any of the slip ons, listen to some clips on YouTube, choose which one looks best or close your eyes and guess. Only opinion that matters is the one that's spending the cash.
I went with the Yoshi R77 all stainless. I love the sound. Just right. I'll try to post a pic later.
