People that buy that bike will get the race kit. That's all there is to it. I don't know why people are all up in arms about this bike. Those who can afford it can afford the race kit to make the bike "whole." It will sell out, and it's going to be an incredible motorcycle. Everyone complaining about the bike would not be able to afford/obtain it anyway.
the MV agusta F4RC is worth the $46k imo as a true race inspired bike. $184k is bonkers for honda's which isnt even comparable to the F4RC. and i agree with the others about the Aprilla, that thing is sick, but after seeing and reading about the 2015 MV Agusta F4RR and F4RC, i think im stuck on that bike for now...... sooooo pretty of a bike!
So the Honda guy got gray hair making this bike and thinks it should actually cost a lot more. Is that supposed to pass for "Honda marketing" stuff these days? Do I give two feces for what gives him gray hair? Ah, no. For what this thing is he should be falling on his sword. I'm going to guess, at 101 hp, that most 600 supersports would spank it at the track. Even for Jay Leno, wouldn't that suck after dropping $184K to get smoked by a kid on an R6 he bought with lawn mowing money? Even with the pedestrian gearbox and valve train, if it made the full 200+ hp with the full race kit, and it was lighter than the Ducati (which is the present lightest liter bike), then it would be worth something in the $50 - 60K range priced in the Superleggera or the H2R stratosphere. The only thing that makes this current bike worth more to the wealthiest collectors is if it also comes with the swag and experience of a rare item. I'm thinking a day of track time with Marquez and tours of the MotoGP bike production in Japan, and special VIP access to MotoGP for some owner hospitality events. Guys that buy stuff like this like to be treated special and buy experiences. They certainly don't want to buy a bike that the kids on bike night are going to scoff at even if their yacht club friends will be impressed.
We know Honda can make a smokin' great bike and all this bike shows us once again is that they're not interested in throwing a bone to the suffering Honda faithful in the supersport market. It's like they're rubbing our noses in their greatness and then telling us (to paraphrase Chevy Chase in Caddy Shack) that we have to swim in the pond because the pool is only for their MotoGP effort.
OK, I did say the bike is a joke:serious:, maybe I was being a little harsh. What I should have said is how they are marketing it and the pricing they came up with are a joke. I'm guessing the handling will be stellar but to release this bike with anything less than class leading HP right out of the box at this price level is not smart. Even with the race kit available it won't save this bike I'm afraid. Maybe they should have gone the route Kawasaki did with the H2R and made it a track only machine and pulled out all the stops. These "exotic" street bikes always seem to be like this, everyone oohs and ahhs over the price tag and the fancy titanium and carbon fiber bits but then they track test it against box stock superbikes (or your neighbors R6) and it laps slower. Seriously hope this is not going to be the case here. Just my .02
selenap - no one is trying to bully you. Your only comments so far on this forum have been discouraging, inflammatory, and frankly zero value-add to any of the discussions here. You exemplify the textbook case of a forum troll who has nothing better to do but attempt to stir up pointless arguments. "You got owned" - seriously? GSXR forums want you back...
Good write up on the RC213V in September Cycle World. It explains the whole deal and how the bike ended up making no power. It was designed strictly as a race bike and has the DNA of Marquez' machine but some compromises had to be made due to the fact most owners don't have a MotoGP technician living with them and the service intervals are crazy short on a machine like that. The catalyst and street equipment was added as an afterthought and to pass emissions , Honda engineers simply lowered the RPMs until it did pass, effectively killing it's power. They also ditched the pneumatic valves, seamless transmission and carbon brakes for similar reasons. What you get for $184,000 plus the $12,000 race kit is a fairly decent replica of Marquez' bike similar to what Ducati did a few years with their GP8 replica, close but no cigar in other words. Leno and Tom Cruise will snap a couple of these up for sure.
