So I have a 2014 CBR 1000rr I bought new in January. It has about 1800 miles on it. I just did a 2nd oil change last night after not riding it for a few weeks and I had to put a screw driver through it because apparently I gorilla griped it on the last oil change 1000-1200ish miles earlier.
I noticed after riding for about 20 minutes it was hitting 200 degrees. Kinda weird because it was in the 70's with a cool breeze and typically the bike has run in the 170-180ish degrees range. Anyway long story short I figured once I got on the highway the temps should come down...........
Nope.
205-210 is were it stayed. Anyways. Long story short it got all the way to 223 by the time I got to work. Any idea why my bike is running hot? I dont see coolant leaking anywhere (It was too hot to tell if maybe I pierced something using the screw driver to get the oil filter off, but I dont think thats the case).
Mod's are fairly minimal. SC-Project slip-on, BKMoto HID retrofit, the rest is aesthetics (carbon fiber hugger, Attack rear sets).
Am i supposed to change the coolant out on a brand new bike. I did switch to full synthetic (mobil 1) 10w40 on this last oil change.
The only thing that changed was I extended the harness for the HID's so I could relocate the majority of the hardware into the tail section of the bike. Only the ballasts are upfront.
I'm kinda worried about riding home and I was planning on dropping my car off to the shop to get some weird issues worked out so I was planning on being on 2 wheels for the next week or so.
Anyone seen this before? Suggestions on what to look for?
