Just asking,

Is it reasonable to assume a bike with 8000 mile oil change intervals should go 8000 miles with out adding more than say 1 quart?

The rate the ones that burn oil, burn it, you will be dry before your halfway to 8000 miles and that means 4 quarts of new oil added and that defeats the purpose of the 8000 mile interval.

I dont know....

i'm not saying that some of the bikes don't have a problem. some are worse than others. after talking to my dealer the other day, he seems to think there's getting ready to be something done by honda. i'm disappointed that honda hasn't stepped up yet as there is a problem, but i still love my '08 more than any bike i've ever owned. so what if i have to add a little more oil than others. it still runs like a scalded dog and handles like a dream

In some ways it is good to see more & more people experiencing this issue. I suspect this problem is larger than we see it, as probably less than 10% of 08+ owners are members of this board.

Flug - your engine likely experienced damage at worse, accelerated wear at best having been run down to that low of an oil level not once, but twice.

I will be seeking an 09 replacement or a buy-back shortly.

i'd say 09, but you never really know whether they've worked out the bugs on a new bike...

probably a good idea to let go of yours and go for an 06 or 07.
