There is no such thing as a 'cool looking open-face helmet'. You must have meant 'a helmet that makes me look like a huge fucking tool'. In that case, any open-face helmet will do the job nicely.
Many years ago in the 1970s I rode with an open helmet. I wasn't involved but I was there when a guy had an accident and face planted in the highway. The asphalt ground away the flesh below his lip and you could see the roots of his teeth through the skin on his chin area. I ditched the open helmet that day and never wore one again except in the dirt and even then I wore a face guard. Of course I'm prettier than you so I'm concerned about those things.
please, please gentlemen...let us all be cognicent of this member's feelings and emotions as we offer our advice and suggestions, lest we bring upon ourselves the stigma of being socially insensitive and irresponsible...
this member is simply asking which one looks cool...
my answer is: none.
there....simply and efficiently answered with a focus on social awareness and sensitivity...
Might try a flip front full face (modular). I use a Nolan N102. It's a bit noiser than a standard full face, but it gives you the same protection as a full face with the front down and locked. When I'm in stopped in traffic or at an traffic light (with a safe buffer of cars behind me) it's nice to pop it open and cool things down a bit.
I have both a Bell and a Simpson open face I wear when riding my cruiser for short distances.....a Nolan modular for longer rides. I don't ever ride a sportbike without a full coverage helmet....I feel an overwhelming paranoia if I ride a sportbike with anything less than full coverage. Pretzel logic? I suppose so....I could get my hansome faced cheese grated just as easily on a cruiser!...Go figure!
now now gentlemen...let us curtail the usage of such degrading sarcasm whilest providing otherwise useful information to one of our fellow motorcyclists...
such actions have been proven time and time again to provoke emotional outrage and spurious outbursts which can only be followed by swift justice from the powers that be...
a modular headcovering would appear to be just the very thing for a gentleman looking to feel the wind against his face, and yet still provide adequate protection in the event an unfortunate incident should occur, causing bodily injury
I use a modular helmet. Be careful with the cheap ones. I hear that some have been known to unlatch in the event of a crash. Be safe. Full face is definitely the way to go. I hate covering up my beautiful face too, lol. But I wont have a beautiful face if I don't keep my entire mug protected.
I agree, the benefits of one certianly and clearly do not out way the consquences. Even in the event of a contact with the pavement on the side, there is greater rigidity in a full face than an open face.
I'm not gonna knock modular's since my pops and his goldwing love the modular helmet, just do your research. They are not all equal in many aspects of comfort, protection and function.
Catch a rock in the teeth and you'll change your mind.
Sharks, Suomy, and Arai all vent extremely well. My head's more Shoei shaped, so I went with an X-11 and I'm not dissappointed. I've done trackdays in 100+ degree weather.
buut if you have your heart set on an open face helmet get something like this HJC that pivots from full face to open face...idk how comfortable it is on the highway but nothing covering your can't be comfortable anyways
I wear a dirtbike helmet, but then again, I ride a dirtbike. Also got the helmet for sale.
When I buy my CBR1KRR, I will definitely be buying a decent quality closed helmet.
Yeah, so, yet another reason to get a full-face: riding home from work today, I caught some bird shit on the windscreen that splashed up into my visor. I'd hate to think what that would have tasted like with an open face...
