CBR Fireblade 2008 final question!
Ok I was torn between a Fireblade and ZX-10R (just for your ref May be finalizing a deal on an '08 1000RR today!)
After sitting on both and went for a short & slow test drive I must admit I much prefer the Blade  ...I also like how it looks and its compact size and finish ...
I have to take your advice on one final thing though before I hand over my hard earned...
The 2008/2009 Blade seem to have the notorious characteristic of burning/using up oil, which is what owners locally and this forum claims - Is your 08-09 burning a lot of oil?
The particular bike I am eyeing has 31,000km and used up oil from day one (around 0.8-1L/1000KM).
It's owner asked Honda to resolve the issue, which they tried to do by replacing piston rings. The problem decreased somewhat but he still was not happy that after the engine was opened it was still using oil...so after a lot of pulling & pushing he managed to get a brand new, sealed engine installed by Honda at 20,000km in 2010.
He says that the 'new' engine uses around 0.3-0.4L/1000 KM. He says that he has accepted this is a characteristic minor inconvenience of the engine. I really appreciate that he has been up front about this and seems like a 100% honest and trustworthy guy ...
I really like the bike...I plan to use it on weekends and some trips to Sicily...now my question to you...would you buy it with this known 'issue'?!

Okay my friend let me tell you something.
I bought my 2008 Honda Cbr1000RR in 2011 and i didnt know anything about the oil problem, clutch problem, crankcase problem, the 08 has more problem than just oil burning.
Check if the recals for clutch were done and there was a recal for hose clamp.
On the steering colum, just on the side where is the ignition, there is the vin number and there are supposed to be punchmarks for done recals, did you check that?
I love my bike, i love the power, i love the looks and i love the sound.
Mine burns half liter on 3000 miles (4500 km).
Not that all other bikes are better than the honda, but honda really fucked up on the 2008 model.
Guys here that got 2011 and 2012 are really happy, 98 % doesnt burn oil and lots of power and no problems.
It used to be like that with the 2007 model.no problems at all and no burning oil.
If you are planning to put 5000 km in a year on that bike, i would say go and get the honda, if you are planning to put 25 000 km, get the kawasaki.
You are saying it burns very very little for now, maybe will stay that way, maybe not,but you should follow your heart. And if you love the honda more than the kawasaki, and you get the kawasaki, you wont be happy, so go ahead and get the honda because since your first thread, you mind was set up for honda.
Plus you are asking opinion on a honda forum, what opinion you gonna get?

Thanks for your honest reply !
At this stage I have ruled out the Kawasaki...I have decided that it's either this Honda or I'll start all over again and consider the other options (possibly 06-07 Blade or 750 GSX-R)...
You are right I was never too fond of the Kwak and always felt the Honda is more my style of bike...
I plan to do in the ballpark of 4000-6000km a year on this bike definitely not more...however if this 'issue' is only deemed to get worse with time or create additional problems, then as much as I like this bike over the previous model (and other 1000cc bikes) I will simply call the show off...
I am not set yet but at this stage I am seriously thinking of not taking the risk ...

I just wouldn't rule out the 08+ Blade for oil burning. Who cares if it burns some oil? Just make sure you check your levels frequently. Unless you really do plan to ride a LOT of miles.
Going back to 06-07 Blades is silly - older technology and a much heavier/bulkier bike. The 08 CBR is the best bike I've owned, it is such a fantastic and easy-to-ride package put together.

He should care, it's a flaw and can lead to reduced reliability and other issues. Get a newer one, problem solved. Like I've said before, mine ended up burning a quart every 700 miles by the time it hit 39,000 miles. That's bullshit, and if you think that's alright, what else would you settle for?

That's exactly my thoughts ...
However I do not want any reliability issues, adding some oil every now and again is not a problem for me, but I do not want ending up with a motor that burns a litre of oil in less than a 1000km in the next year or 2. God I'm torn !

If only life was that easy for me ...
I would gladly have the 2012 model over the 2008 trust me. But I simply dont afford it...heck I'd spring on a BMW S1000RR instead of the 08 CBR if money was not an issue...
