My 2005 CBR1000RR was supplied by a reputable shop to the previous owner as a track day bike that had been built from an insurance write-off doner machine, six years ago.
Having recently purchased the bike, I'm now going over it to make it ready for next year and I thought I'd look into it's history.
My first idea was to carry out a finance check on the frame number to see what I could find out.
This drew a blank as there are only 16 digits and there shoudl be 17. I then went to the Vehicle Licencing Authority and asked them what they could tell me, they also said they couldn't help as there are only 16 digits.
I have all the receipts etc from the original sale and I have no real need to find out the history, but I am curious.
Has the number been 'doctored', has Honda ever made frames with only 16 digits (maybe for other countries), has the factory left a number off, or is there some other more sinister reason?
I know JH2SC57 is for the CBR1000RR, but where should the missing digit (if it is missing) be marked?
If anyone has a 2004/20005 bike, could you compare my number with yours and let me know if it looks similar.
I have erased the last four numbers (for obvious reasons.)
Any thoughts are welcome.
Thank you.
Pete
