so as you can see, one lane onto eastbound 580 is entrance only, and the nexrt lane to the left is a entrance only westbound 580, heading toward tassajara.
if you use street view, you'll see there are solid white lines, filled with diagonal lines denoting an island, which is what I rode straight thru and merged into the lane I was wanting to be in. I was actually lanesplitting to the front but the light turned green too early, and the right lane was open, so that's how I ended up in the incorrect lane... not scary dangerous but yes, still stupid, and hence why I only did it once.
I usually only lanesplit to the front of a stop light if the following variables line up:
1) enough room for me (no surburbans hogging the white line)
2) many cars lined up
3) either I feel like it and/or am in a hurry
