Commuting to work or school on your Bike

I'm not tall 5'5". and when I lay on the tank at freeway speeds, the backpack encumbers my helmet and neck (aka hard to look up). So I've found that a bike messenger bag works the best for me (timbuk2), with a chest stability strap, like a real backpack would have, the bag always stays in place. for my kawi, and just small stuff I use a tank bag.

I have cars, but I prefer to commute on a motorcycle.

here's mine. picked up the aluminum plate used for $20 bucks, the seat for $25 buck (it has a few tears but no worries), a trip to lowes for a couple of pieces of hardware, and a couple of sections of aluminum tubing for standoffs.

just a turn of the key and i swap from my stock seat to this one

when I ride to work I only wear a jacket, gloves and helmet and ride with sneakers. I know im a squid when I ride to work but thats how it goes. If I need I do carry a backpack but only when I need too

I wear a backpack to carry my shoes and work clothes. I still wear Kevlar jeans, knee pads, boots, etc every time. People at work have given my crap, but they probably haven't slid across pavement before.

i have a Carbon backpack as you mentioned. It seems to flap less in higher speeds and protects my goods
