The escort solo is wireless, not the 9500ix pictured above. What makes it so cool is the gps and locking out false signals. The detector stays quiet unless... If it beeps and says Ka detected, there is a cop for sure somewhere close. I've only had it for about 4 months $300 on craigs but saved me a few times already. I'm not riding or driving crazy but it sure is nice to know they are around.

I used an Escort Redline for better detection in the hills/twisties. Honestly, between false reads, expense, hassle of monitoring, it was taking away from the ride. It's just easier to slow down...

The trick is to not be the "lead" vehicle. Some cops wait till the last second to use their radar, and if you're the lead vehicle or if you're a solo vehicle you're screwed.

Only if it's laser. If they get you with laser you're pretty much done, but laser requires a long straight shot for them, which means they have to be in the open and you should be able to see them by the time they can get it on you. Radar isn't accurate using instant on and is easy to fight in court, so they should have it on before you get to them, which means any good detector will pick it up in plenty of time to slow down.

Lidar, aka lasar has to be shot in a straight line (true ^), and close, so usually under 1/4 mile away. They have to aim at something on your bike that is parallel to the ground, on a car that's a license plate, but on a bike, it's much harder to nail us, b/c we are smaller. It's possible, especially if you are solo.
Almost always, when I've been tagged (even in my car), it's under 1/4 mile, so usually you should see the LEO. but yeah, it's instant on. you need a laser jammer if you are going to evade.
I'd say radar, gives you minimum 10 seconds to adjust your speed at freeway speeds. and I'd say it takes them 5 seconds to get a good read on you with radar.

My problem was just the product. Read a few reviews that the wireless respond 50% less to hard-wired radar detector to save battery life, so by the time I was warned, it's too late.
