it's weird enough 2 of my friends had transmission issues today.

first bike have this weird clunk clunk on 3rd gear. not sure what it's but will pull it and see what is wrong.

2nd one is ugly he down shifted hard and the clutch basket shattered and it toke away the engine casing on the top of it there is barely anything left of the basket and like 10 inch hole in the casing.

I'm new to the 1000RR but used honda's all my life how strong are our transmissions and clutch really really ? these 2 guys are just street riders they don't even race them and both bikes seen less than 10k miles.

my 900rr lived for 5 years with me and the 2nd gear went out on me after that but I was clutching the hell out of it all the time.

You bought the bike from dealer or second hand? If brandnew i makesure it trouble from factory, if second hand you.got bike from sircuit, bend in fork shifter,or broken in third sprocket

can't imagine this happening just over 1 gear down shift. seems like the clutch basket was beaten up bad before cracked or something and that down shift ended it.
