I have spun a rod bearing in my engine after taking it drag racing. On my fifth pass of the nite, right after crossing the finish my oil light came on and my engine had a slight knock to it. I checked the oil, it was low but still visible in the sight glass and it was 1500 miles since my last oil change using mobil 1 sythetic, i changed it anyways hoping it would fix the knock but it didnt plus when i cleaned my drain pan i found shavings so that confirmed my suspision ...how much am i looking at spending at just doing a refresh. Worse case scenario i have to buy a new crank if its scarred up to bad to b polished and a rod if its fubared also. I would like to possibly build it since i have to tear it apart anyways but im tryin to figure out how much im looking at just doing a refresh b4 i get my hopes up in being able to afford some goodies.

Btw my fastest time was a 6.64@114mph i had crappy takeoffs as this was my first time going bummer huh

Im going through the same process after losing a rod bearing on the highway. If your case is similar to mine you will need a new crankshaft in a addition to your rod because chances are the journal was etched. If you machine out the grooves you make the journal smaller and you may not be able to find a bearing thick enough to fill the gap. A used ebay crank is cheaper anyway.

If youre doing it properly (new stretch bolts, crank & rod bearings, head gasket, used crank & rods) youre looking at $500 for parts. Not too bad if youre doing it yourself especially if you wanted to mod it up anyway.

Yeah thats bout what i figure would happen with the crank and whatnot. Most likely ill just put this ridin season on hold and save up to have it built over winter so next year ill have a fresh start with some added hp to go with it. Ill b doing most the labor myself except for havin headwork done gotta research somewhere closeby that does good work and ill send it out for that.

Finally took the engine apart..#1 cylinder rod had a wore down rod bearing. Crank journal wasnt scarred up to bad so i can have it polished and reused. The cylinder walls had some pretty good scuffs tho ill post pics so some of u experienced guys can tell me if im better off buying another top case or have these honed and b good to go.

Yeah i knew that just wondering if honing them will b ok or if im better off buying another top in better shape.
