kc1717 09-21-2005, 05:09 PM i would say forks if you are heavy, shock if you are under 150
liter blade 09-21-2005, 05:11 PM excellent...im at about 195 and im kind of ok with the rear shock although it has such a crappy adjustment window.
thanks man.

if you havent been on the track yet your stock stuff is fine. i am still on stock stuff and i am running lap times that are top five in a novice class.
its pretty scary now, so i am upgrading, but atleast i got to learn what a bad suspension feels like.
liter blade 09-21-2005, 05:23 PM i realize that i dont ride as hard as i could on a track but there are benefits and peace of mind in upgrading...
anyhow, ill be on the track next season and probly not on the street as much with all the moron drivers and shite road conditions.
CDidRR 09-21-2005, 06:02 PM What about getting the shock and just changing the front springs...? That's what I think I am going to do... I'm no expert but it seems to make sence to me...am I wrong?

the best impovements i have made to the stock suspension was correcting my body position.
khill 09-21-2005, 06:20 PM Comparing stock front to stock rear, the front is worse. BUT! You can still go pretty damn fast on the stock stuff ridden properly. I rode mine at Laguna bone stock except for race tires and was able to lap into the 34's. I had to adjust my riding style quite a bit to compensate for the stock shock/forks, but they werent' that bad.
If you can, do both the front and rear at the same time, otherwise there will be a pretty decent "imbalance." Just .02......

Yep, there will be a huge imbalance doing one without the other. I did shock first and from first ride on Ohlins rear the forks drove me nuts!

yep,...i did the same thing on my old r1, and it made the forks feel so ****ing bad i hated it,.....
liter blade 09-21-2005, 06:44 PM I have been working on my body positioning and learning alot about how this bike reacts to where you put the center of gravity...
if i think about it...i still am learning so maybe upgrading can wait.
also...the "imbalance" issue has crossed my mind.
maybe i'll wait and practice then upgrade the forks and shock together at a later time.
this thread has definately been useful to me...
thanks guys.

1. dont hug the tank, move 4in back or so
2. get my head as low and next to the windscreen
3. no weight on the wrist
4. elbows bent, always make sure i can flap them like wings
5. hold yourself up with your legs over the bumps that cause the forks to pogo or make the rear wallow

I already do as much as I can of that, my gut does not permit me to get my head down as far as I would like, of course I will be working on that.

i thought i had pretty good body position and maybe even hanging off too much. but what i was feeling and what i was doing were two different things.
infact i found out some of my problems were do to my restrictive two piece suit. switched to a alpinestar one piece with that spandex stuff and wow!!!!

my suit is full of Keprotec, it really helps with mobility!

Jim Twist of the Wrist Vol. II has a lot on this, it's an interesting take.

yep, read it, plus I have done two days with CSS.
Not a big Code fan actually, but my days were in 1986 though too. Maybe things have changed a little? Hehehehee

RavenRR 09-24-2005, 07:25 AM Maybe on some separate thread we can discuss CSS... Never been.
