I picked up some armorall protectant wipes today. They say they clean, shine and protect and i was thinking they might be great for spot wiping on the fairings? I use honda spray, but i was wondering if anybody has a idea about these?

i also picked up these micro-fiber towels and they are supposed to be scratch free, any thoughts on these??

I use old towels and lemon pledge. I really dont worry about keeping the bike scratch free. but any paper product is going to scratch to some degree.

Any recommendations on cleaning the rims?
I went to the auto store yesterday and better
than half of the rim cleaning products said not
to use on motorcycle rims . ?????????
I tried to clean with dish soap but it would not cut
the brake dust. Scrubbed like a mother and still
plenty of gummy residue left, afraid to use anything
harsh w/ so many different types of metal and plastic
nearby. anyone w/ a good, safe product

For the rims I have been using this orange cleaner. It cuts the brake dust and chain oil fling.

Great stuff but you should still get some good carnuba wax to make a good protectant coat.

I normally use car wash soap in a bucket, a sponge, and use the garden hose to rinse. Old towels work well for drying.

Use the "absorber" found at your local kargen, pep boys, autozone, walmart, etc...

less towel usage does not scratch the paint

Honda polish on bike,WD40 on rims.WORKS GREAT

I agree wholeheartedly.

For waxing I use Meguiars Gold Class and I top that off with Meguiars Sealer Glaze.

Also, wiping the rims with a dryer sheet cuts the static and eliminates a lot of the accumulation of brake dust

Honda Polish, Plexis , S100 , or lemon fresh Pledge.......all are great ......

As for cleaning the rims or calipers or pourous aluminum.........Try Simple Green......

Straight its extremely effective and requires very little elbow grease......and will not harm paint as well as is 100% bio degradeable

Inbetween all the spray waxes..........a bi weekly coat of Zymol wax is a must....

Hondabrite or S100 for calipers, rearsets, engine covers, and to clean gunk off of rims.

Plexus on plastic

Honda spray polish or WD40 on everything else.

If I only could use 1 thing it would be Honda Spray Polish. It does everything well. Plexus is far better on bodywork though.

Honda polish. All my HD "fiends" use it too. Works good, smells and taste good and makes a good sub for deordorant in a pinch if needed !

down in new orleans we'd use honda polish and used dryer sheets to get the bugs off...no problem with that up here in North Carolina...but in new orleans when love bug season rolls around twice a year, you better have saved up some dryer sheets...there are so many bugs it's like driving in the rain...

Be careful with degreaser. It ruins o rings.

Brake cleaner is good for cleaning chain fling off rims.
I don't use WD40 because it leaves a slight oily residue that picks up dust quickly.

Last night was my first wax job...i pulled the bike inside and used honda polish to clean...then two coats of Maguires wax...then honda polish for dust....used Bug and Tar remover on the rims...cleaned them into looking brand new...used shop towels on the rims and diapers for polishing out the wax....

i must say...after a month of riding, caught about 5 times in the rain and driving it up a gravel driveway everytime i ride, it looks better now than it did on the show room floor...that was works gooood

I use water alone. Fresh from the sky.

When it rains, my bike gets wet. I will then make sure to do a wheelie to get the underside rinsed with fresh water. Then get the bike into a good lean on both sides by hitting the local twisties.

I have yet to wash my bike. I thought about it the other day.

poor bike... :thumbdow: :scratch:I am averaging about 90 miles a day right now. And I have not done a track day, and have only hit the twisties twice. Only about 500 of those miles are dedicated twisties time.

I have put 100 miles behind the wheel of my cars in the same time frame.
