Red Rider 1000RR 12-21-2005, 09:54 AM Got some friends trying to put together a trip to attend a wheelie school and was looking for anyone that has attended them or has any feedback on whether it's worth it. We are looking to attend one somewhere in the southeast. The one listed below is one we are looking at now.
We like the idea of learning basics on a bike that is provided to prevent laying our bike down. Thanks for any advice.

Repsol_Mojo 12-21-2005, 11:04 AM i dont know maan, you havet to pay for the class and then pay for the bike if you damage it, up to but not over $750, at the track before you leave, that is bs, all schools have a damage waiver, they know something could go wrong and might, and they still leave you to fit the bill, that is crazy,
JoeRoke 12-21-2005, 11:05 AM i always did find the "wheelie school" a funny idea...
but if its making them money from squids that wanna learn.. more power to them
MetalScorpio 12-21-2005, 11:36 AM Yeah...tell me how does that work....Wheelies are illegal but they have school for it. it's like having a WHORES AND PIMPS SCHOOL. or a HOW TO ROLL A JOINT SCHOOL. :D
blk1000rr 12-21-2005, 11:47 AM Spend the money on real (track) riding lessons in the long run you get more out of it.
miramax 12-21-2005, 06:11 PM that craps for real? i thought it was a joke! rofl
flyboy 12-21-2005, 06:48 PM Looks like fun. Looked at it last year and I thought they said they've never had someone drop a bike doing a wheelie witht the equipment on the bike
BMACKNYC1000RR 12-22-2005, 08:35 AM hahaha wheelie school....if you learn on their bikes it is not like learning on yours and you wont have any "special equipment" to save your *ss....clutching a BS bike and your 1000rr is two totally different animals!!!!rofl :o
TrikHed 12-22-2005, 09:56 AM I think they're just trying to provide an alternative to learning wheelies.... on a track instead of the street. At least it's in a seemingly controlled environment with people to give pointers/tips and provide professional (medic) aid if something goes wrong.
Sorry, but I don't think a friend dialing 911 qualifies as professional aid when they just watched you do something stupid somewhere you shouldn't have been doing it... in attempts to learn how to do it.
What's next... it's stupid to have track schools? I mean, why not just learn on the street. :(
I applaud the fact they have a place to get instruction for something like that.
my advice get all of your friends together chip in and buy a F4i for about 1000 to 2500( look you can find one). read some instructions on wheelie's there is a good one in this forum by RR from S.I.,really vision what he is saying, soak up everything. take the bike to a parking lot (no cars or traffick)suit up (gear is a must). roll about 25 to 30mph relax, learn how to pop that clutch. You have your own wheelie school. a lot cheaper and you can advance over time at your own pace Everyone learns at different levels.
Your in charolette Im in Raleigh, one day when it gets warmer we can ride out. most of the guy's i ride with can't keep the front down. We an't STUNTERS but handle our B.I
NMBR1SPT 12-22-2005, 10:29 PM Or buy a crf50 and do it at a lower speed so you can actually get a feel for whats going on, the fiddy won't cost as much to buy or fix and you won't get hurt as bad if you fall. and makes for good vids to, the 50 is probally the same cost or alittle more than the school and you will have a fun bike left over when you've learned.
flyboy 12-25-2005, 09:24 PM hahaha wheelie school....if you learn on their bikes it is not like learning on yours and you wont have any "special equipment" to save your *ss....clutching a BS bike and your 1000rr is two totally different animals!!!!rofl :o
I think they use Triumph Speed Triples at teh school...not really a BS bike

Woman dies after attempting wheelie

Montgomery – Men and women who ride motorcycles understand the risks. If something goes wrong on a bike, the resulting injuries are usually serious or life threatening.
Even so, millions take that chance for the thrill and passion of the cycling experience, and increasing numbers are participating in stunt classes to learn "safer" ways to perform tricks.
About 1 p.m. Sunday, the Los Angeles-based company On One Wheel was using a rented stretch of tarmac at the Orange County Airport to help riders practice popping wheelies.
Something went wrong.
According to Town of Montgomery police, Leslie R. Duco, 46, was participating in the wheelie class when she lost control of a Triumph motorcycle and was thrown from the bike.
Sgt. Dennis Barnett said Duco was treated on-site by Montgomery County Regional EMS, already on standby at the airport, and transported by Mobile Life Support Services to Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown, where she later died.
Police said the cause of death has not yet been determined.
"The pavement was wet, (but) right now it does not appear that the weather had anything to do with it," Barnett said. "It's not prudent to do those kinds of maneuvers in inclement weather."
A reconstruction and investigation by Montgomery police and the Orange County Sheriff's Office is continuing.
While there's no risk-free way to practice motorcycle stunts, On One Wheel uses a modified training bike equipped with anti-flip devices designed to slow the bike and lower it back to the ground. According to the company's Web site, one device activates a "rev limiter" to kill one of the engine's three cylinders, and the other device applies the rear brake. The training bike can also be adjusted for different wheelie heights.
According to the Web site, Sunday's class was the last of three consecutive days of sold-out training courses at the airport. The next series of classes is scheduled from June 10 to 12. Lessons cost $495 per day.
Orange County spokesman Steve Gross said On One Wheel had the appropriate permits and insurance to conduct classes at the airport. It's not unusual for the airport to rent to private organizations. "We have a number of venues that rent space from the airport from time to time," Gross said. In the past, bus drivers have trained on unused runway.
Duco's family could not be reached yesterday. A spokesman for On One Wheel could not discuss the accident by press time yesterday.
Sidewalk 12-25-2005, 09:57 PM Think it is a cool idea, but I won't spend my hard earned money on it. Now if I won the lottery...
How about buying a cheap bike like everyone else suggests, or finding a stunt riding friend that will let you learn on his/her bike (good way to get instruction too).
I am passively learning on my KTM. I can wheelie just fine, but can never get up to and stay at my balance point.
Desert Runer 12-25-2005, 10:16 PM start with a fifty or a cheap dirtbike. they are easier and cheaper to fix. they also don't hurt as badly if they land on you like a 400lb streetbike does
Know the risks of what your doing, and wear that gear. A smaller bike to learn on is the best because its harder for it to get away from you. In the beginning it will put you down a few times, but after a while it will be a toy. I started on a 50 but its to small for me so i started using my Daughters TTr 125 (play bike)Now fast foward I got blocks on it because the fear is gone. Ive learned slow, fast, scrapes,no foot, tank, stand ups, coasters,Endows, now im doing combos and learning circles. I took every thing ive learned on the TTr and took it to street bikes. Im still better on the dirt bikes but I can pick up my 954 for a good while, also got endows about 50+ feet. It gives you a better feel of what your doing. Now lets see what happens this season on my 1000........ im kiddin im getting a drz for stunting and riding my 1000 :)
