Help with Installing Arata Rear Sets on an 06

After installing the left side Arata rear set I am having some trouble with the right side/brake side rear set. Since there is not supposed to be any changes to the frame, rear sets or rear brakes between the 04/05 and the 06 I thought it wise to post this to all the 1000RR members. Arata's web site shows the same part number for all 1000RR’s to include the 06. I plan to call Arata tomorrow but I wanted to check first with any one here who might have first hand knowledge installing them on their 1000RR.

My first problem is when trying to bolt the rear brake light sensor switch bracket to the Arata rear set. There is an arm that sticks out from the Arata rear out for the purpose of mounting the sensor bracket but the location seems to far forward and puts the sensor plunger with the spring on the end at an awkward down ward position causing it to bind to the point where I don't feel comfortable mounting it that way. Am I doing something wrong or is there a change in the 06 I'm not familiar with.

My second question is regarding the original brake lever spring. Am I supposed to reuse it? If so I can’t figure out where, and again, no instructions from Arata. After installing everything hand tight to include the sensor which was slightly binding the pedal does not want hinge back up on its own leaving the rear brake light on until I manually lift the rear brake lever. I am very disappointed with the lack of directions Arata put together. It wouldn't be an issue if I didn't run into any problems. All that was provided was a schematic, a parts list and some warnings about greasing the linkage.

I just purchased a set of Arata rear sets for my 06. Haven't tried to install them yet, and now you have me very curious to see what happens.

There are some pictures here

of how it should look from arata (striker)'s web site

and a UK web site instalation pic here (which is different!)

Any help?

If it will help you, I'll take a couple of better close ups of mine tonight after work. I'm actually surprised you didn't have any issues with the left side! I had tons of issues with mounting the gear shift lever and connecting it to tranny... it didn't help that Arata forgot to include one of the critical pieces - the part that actually extends the shaft on the tranny - so I tried a million different things before I finally figured out that they had forgotten something!

When I put mine on, I found that I had to create some more slack in the wire for the brake light plunger.... I had to pull too hard in order to mount it to the rearset so I ended up having to remove the right fairings in order to create a little slack for it.

To answer your other question... yes you should be using the stock spring. It should be self explanatory where it hooks onto, but I'll try to get you some pics of that too if you still need them.

Thanks for quick replies. I will try to pull more of the wiring through for the rear brake light sensor.

Just to be clear am I supposed to use the bigger stock return spring? I understand the system needs the smaller spring on the brake light sensor. I should have been more clear on my first post.

Thanks again,

Adam

Actually you were clear enough... I just didn't pay enough attention while reading it. I actually don't remember anything about the return spring. I'll check when I get home tonight unless someone gives you your answer before then.

Same issue here. trying to install the OEM switch on the Arata. MY brake light switch harness is too short!!!! WTF. Did you guys have this problem or did you find extra length from some where..
