repsolguy 03-29-2006, 01:34 PM with the intake refinements on the 06 model, i thought it would be wise to look into the new velocity stacks on the 06 vs. the 05, knowing that honda has a new part number for the 06 and HRC gets almost $400 for the kit stacks,( they are of a different heigth than std), i ordered a set and upon arrival i could tell they were quite a change from 04-05, the 06 version is the same heigth but the stack has got a large bell shape to it, in other words the 04-05 are more of a cylinder with a rolled lip at top, now picture the 06 being coned shaped with the new top opening ID as large as the old version OD including the rolled lip, that much more ID on the new version, huge opening coned down to the same ID as the 04-05, now comes the catch, the 04-05 verson at the bottom where it overlaps into the throttle body come to a point and the 06-version is cut off flat, just like a clean cut on any cylinder, so at this point i find a tapered glass longneck beverage bottle and layer some 240 grit sandpaper on the neck and shove the cone wrapped neck into the lower stack and start dressing the inner bore so the stack tapers and blends to the throttle body bore creating a smooth transition like the 04-05, weather has been wet and a good hard flogging has not been done yet, photo's and a performance report will follow, in the past some of my previous bikes and my aprilia mille r series benefit from stack variations, mostly length changes, gxr and yamaha r1 all have aftermarket stuff and aprilia uses a mix and match from different years, time will tell how the powerband will be effected with a larger opening pulling more air but std length, for only $17. each, its a cheap R&D venture

Let us know how you make out. My buddy gained 7HP on his GSXR1000 changing to 750 stacks.
repsolguy 03-29-2006, 06:36 PM Let us know how you make out. My buddy gained 7HP on his GSXR1000 changing to 750 stacks.7hp from a bolt-on that basic is cheap horsepower, i used ATTACK PERFORMANCE velocity stacks on my gsxr along with his 2nd butterfly mod. and gained close to 10hp, so i know how much can be gained by this type of mod. V twin aprilia's by bolting on the stock mille sp short stacks they gain about 5 hp but widen the mid range out a ton
MOTOBUM 03-29-2006, 06:57 PM very cool keep us updated
jyeh.. this sounds exciting.
mrgrn 03-29-2006, 10:30 PM ain't going to happen with a Honda i bet. the Gixxers and others respond better/more to mods then Hondas. the RC51, people tried this and then that and never got anywhere big. i would expect you to change the RPMS around some but no real HP to be found. i haver seen graphs with airboxes off and no more power was made if fact it was lost even with mapping. good luck though and please post some pics damn it lol
liter blade 03-29-2006, 11:17 PM would be cool if it worked...only a good dyno before & after with identical conditions will tell the truth, but im game if it works.
repsolguy 03-31-2006, 11:39 PM after putting some miles on the bike, i can say that there is a benefit with this mod, seems that it pulls harder under acceleration and the rool on has improved, i say this being that upon installation of the big doller hrc intake duct combined with a new set of bmc filters, ran well over $400. at the time of installation of above mentioned parts the bike already had a pipe and pclll, duct and filters provided a seat of the pants increase without any mapping/fine tuning, under the same circumstances this $35. mods gave the same seat of the pants feel as the $400., well worth the money, the engine now has the potential to draw a lot more air, i cant sit here and blow off a bunch of technical theory, just relating my experience, for $35 its a no brainer, will post photo's if i can figure out the procedure
AKrider 03-31-2006, 11:50 PM How much did you pay for the silicone hose kit?
Got any pics?
scott1kRR 04-01-2006, 12:21 AM you got part numbers?
mrgrn 04-01-2006, 12:35 AM thanx for the update
THETINMAN 04-01-2006, 08:51 AM Alot more opening aint necessarily a good thing. Intake air speed is extremely important, and some bikes have dropped the size of their intakes/intake valves by a mil lately to INCREASE horsepower. The bigger the intakes, the slower the air speed. Worse, Air speed varies by RPM's, so what may work at 9000 is shit at 3000. It's all about balance, and honestly, i don't know enough to play with that stuff. I need numbers b4 i try to outsmart the honda guys

around $250. us, 135 pounds english, really nice stuff, a minor problem, it was short 1 hose, order time was 1 month as the kits are made to order, quality, fit/shape is top notch, offered in 7 colors, i went blue, which i believe was also done for inventory so they would be readily available in the future
