Been thinking a lot about the Shogun's that I, and many of you, have. After hearing the horror stories about bending and crusing the elbow underneith I figured I'd just take them off. But, I came up with an improvement to avoid the crushed elbow problem. Bottom line is, by cutting out some of the material from the slider spool you can rotate it up enough to avoid the elbow. Here's the pics. Sorry about the quality... camara phone.

There's so much aluminum there that it shouldn't have an effect on the strength. I did it just enough so that I could rotate it far enough to miss the elbow. You could probably get another 1/8 out of it. But there's a limit as to how far you can rotate the slider bracket because it hits the mounting bracket for the last screw on the midsection.
Something not shown on the pics is that by rotating the bracket that far up I had to remove an 1/8 of material off the back bottom lip of the midsection (bottom inside edge, only visible if you take the mid off).
Took me about two hours monkeying with it. Hacksaw and bench grinder.

I just ordered some Woodcraft sliders and will be cutting the hole on the fairings. I'm of course gonna be removing the no cut sliders. That bracket is gonna bend eather way and might damage something else.

I would go with a 2 1/8 " hole.

looks good, i'll have to look at it next time i see you at Blackhawk, my question is, now that you moved it, is there any way to keep it from turning and pushing in. maybe mounting something under it (ie plastic?) one of the problems that i have seen, the bracket bends and turns. i like your fix but wonder if anything else can be done with the design. no matter how thick the mount is it might rotate and bend by the mount narrow end of the mount.

I have the woodcraft sliders, they're top notch.

Yeah, I hear ya. It's definitely not a perfect solution, and if I had a machine shop I'm sure I could come up with something. I did put a lock washer on the bolt to make it harder to turn. Probably a couple star washers would be even better.

yeah, it looked to me that you may keep the elbow from getting mashed but the skin would prolly need to change if it rotated or bent.
