Been thinking a lot about the Shogun's that I, and many of you, have. After hearing the horror stories about bending and crusing the elbow underneith I figured I'd just take them off. But, I came up with an improvement to avoid the crushed elbow problem. Bottom line is, by cutting out some of the material from the slider spool you can rotate it up enough to avoid the elbow. Here's the pics. Sorry about the quality... camara phone.

There's so much aluminum there that it shouldn't have an effect on the strength. I did it just enough so that I could rotate it far enough to miss the elbow. You could probably get another 1/8 out of it. But there's a limit as to how far you can rotate the slider bracket because it hits the mounting bracket for the last screw on the midsection.
Something not shown on the pics is that by rotating the bracket that far up I had to remove an 1/8 of material off the back bottom lip of the midsection (bottom inside edge, only visible if you take the mid off).
Took me about two hours monkeying with it. Hacksaw and bench grinder.
