My turn signals came today!!! Took about 2 hours to install...(only because I took my time so that I wouldn't scratch anything). I love them. Everyone should check them out......they look killer!!! So sleek and clean. If I could figure out how to post pics, I would. But......not there yet

Did you really pay $110 for them?

Thorn92
04-07-2004, 04:59 PM
Yep...I'm a aucker...lol!! They are really a pice of work though. Heavy-duty....Alot more impressive once they're in your hand...but hey, I have to make myself feel better for paying that;;LOL! Acouple of my friends have them on their R1s and it was something I just had to have...sets your bike apart from the majority.

Me too! If I really want something that bad, the price doesn't matter. Does look cool though! Can't wait for pics.

The photos on their website for the 600rr, it looks like the blinkers are in backwards, or pointing towards the rear instead of to the front. The other bike's (R1, gixxers, etc.) look better, more flush.

Thorn92
04-07-2004, 06:57 PM
Yeah, the pic looks all wrong...but they're not like that. Mine look great. If anyone plans on getting a set, order the ones for the 600rr...they said it's the same application. I bought the red....black would look good too!

Thorn, in alot of the pictures for the different bikes, the blinker part looks flush with the fairing. How far do yours stick out? If noone can see them, what's the point, you know?

IronNutz

Basically what I mean is, how's the visability during the day (From front especially)? Need others to understand what I'm doing.

Thorn92
04-08-2004, 05:29 AM
Mine are pretty flush...the base that is. The LED itself does stick out....afier I installed them I looked at them fro the sides and front to check and they worked fine. they were noticable to me.

Thorn92

Actually, they're much brighter than you'd think.

Hey Thorn, Did you order them direct from Gregg's Custom? when you try to place an order it takes you to a links page for distributors. They are only 40 bucks through the East Coast distributor (McCoy's) But it looks like you only get the light. Any ideas? Thanks man.

Yes it does take you to other distributors...east or west coast. I bought them from the East coast one. Actually to find them, I believe you have to rub a search McCoy's site. Click on the manufacturer tab and find Gregg's customs...then in the price field put $110.00 and it will take you to the signals for specific bikes. The 1KRR isn't listed yet, but they are the same as the 600RR so just order those...I love them!! If you have trouble finding them, let me know.

One more question for ya Thorn. How long did it take you to install these flush mounts? Was it hard? Did they send you directions? I just placed my order. Thanks for the help.

It took me a few hours, only because I was having trouble figuring out hoe to get the side fairings off...kinda diferent mounting towards the front. I took my time so I wouldn't scratch or break anything. They go on really easy. Once your panel is off, just disconnect the stock signals, then unattach them. I cut the wiring harness from the stock signals so I could use the factory coupler still. I soldered them and used heat shrink on them so they are just like a factory job. The stock signals have three wires....the new ones will only have two, becaue they're not running lights. I can't remember whick wires were used. I just turned the key and checked them til it worked.....really simple. The entire light assembly just bolts on from the inside of the fairing. I did use a bit larger washer just to be sure it wouldn't pull through...you'll see. Hope this helps.

I ordered the black ones since I'm getting the black 1000RR. I didn't know they weren't running lights though. I don't know if I"m a fan of that but guess I'll have to deal with it.

They look real good. Do they blink at a normal rate or do they blink fast?

Vale46
04-17-2004, 05:40 PM
The Gregg's indicators(or any other aftermarket blinker where you cut off the auxiliary stay-on 'riding light' wire) will probably cause the blinkers to run fast. The third wire in the front is just left as a dead wire unless the new blinker also has three wires too. I installed a black pair for the red RR since it blends in real well in the stock blinker recess where the black wing decal goes over. These blinkers are simply awesome. Definitely the most flush and cleanest design out there. What it lacks in size, it makes up for with brightness and intensity. Well assembled, too. Worth all $110 to me...

I am thinking about getting these signals and making them running/signals. When I had my RC51 I did this but the regular lights that were 2 wire were a higher amperage than the 3 wire ones and they started to melt the light housing as well as my fairing because they are not ment to stay on all the time.
Just waiting for word from Gregg's to see if it will be OK to do with their's.
And I can't find the wiring schematic that I used from RC51.org, I know it is just a couple of diodes on the positive sides but I would like to find that schematic.

Looks great Thorn. I'll probably order a black set if Gregg's get's back to michaelrc51 and says it's cool to make them running lights also.

Vale & Molsonman and any other guys that have installed them too, how's the visibility from the front during the day? (I'm thinking head-on turn lane scenario)

Vale46
04-20-2004, 11:19 PM
They're more visible than they might seem. Thats kinda the beauty of these lights. Tiny enough to clean up the bulk, perfect form fitting style, and visibility that you'd be really surprised with. You wouldn't think that something this small, this flush, would be so visible, yet it is. Finding a way to make them running lights would definitely be a plus in the visibility factor. They're a very bright point of light. I'd post up some pics but no camera @ the moment...

Talked to Gregg's and he said that it is perfectly fine to have them running continuously, they won't get hot enought to do any damage to anything. Guess I just need to order them now.
Anybody know where to find the schematic for the wiring?
I can't seem to find it on rc51.org anymore.

Just got off the phone with the guy from Gregg's. He said he just found out people have been buying the signals for the 600RR to put on the 1000RR. He said it will fit, but when you look from anywhere other than directly to the side, you will notice they are recessed. He said it's up to you, but the one's they are making in the shop for the 1000RR right now, will be available in a few weeks and will look alot better.

I thought the pic on Thorn's bike looked pretty good, but he said if you saw the two side-by-side, you would probably wait.

Just an FYI.

I just joined up to see what's happenning. As IronNutz said, we are working on the 1000 signals now. The 600's will work, but the 1000's will be perfect. Let me know if you have any questions/concerns via e-mail.

Hey Gregg! Honored to have you on this site. Your name and the pieces we refer to as art have been mentioned here on numerous occassions. :D Good to have actual shop owners and aftermarket business owners participating one on one with the riders on the street. Great PR!!
Great news to hear that you got a 1000RR specific light in the oven. Kinda bummed though since I was one of the few to jump the gun and run the 600RR lights. As you said, they look awesome, even with the little recess, but man, I can't imagine what 'even better' for the 1000RR specific lights will look like. I already dished out the $110 for the 600RR lights but whether I'd be willing to do it again for the new ones will be determined by how much more awesome they are. Can't wait to see'em! Keep us posted with the news for those, as well as any other 1000RR parts you might be coming out with.

I never did find the schematic, but I think you put in a diode on each of the + sides. This way the positives are not on at the same time. I will scan in a diagram of what I am saying a little later.
If anyone knows please post.

i know you can get an integrator from customled.com, that is a pretty standard one. There is also one that has all kinds of flashing options. I think it is made by vfx or something like that. Run a thread search and you will find this topic covered in depth.
As for the running lights I have no idea I was looking into that myself

I have installed these signals on my bike and I am very happy with them. They are brighter than expected, and you can't beat the clean look. Cars ahead of you will not see them during the day, but they will at night. I like the fact that cars on the side of you on the freeway can see them blinking when making a lane change. I ordered them from McCoy's, they screwed up and sent me two right side signals, they said call Greggs to fix it, and I did. I called him on a Friday and he sent them overnight Saturday delivery so I could have my bike for the weekend. I'll have pics posted tomorrow. I also have the rear brake light with integrated LED turn signals.

I'm told the lights are turn signals only? If you ever get around to making them running/turn signals; let me know. I'd like to have a set then. I'm even thinking about converting the reflectors to running lights. And this time; I'm gonna have some convenient switches installed on a switch plate above the electrical steering dampner to turn them on and off. Since the trooper chased me for about 10 miles with his lights off; two can play that game. That was one expensive ticket! 1st time I've been caught in 4 years! But it won't happen again!
