hondardr 11-28-2004, 04:31 PM I have tried till my key fingers are blue to contact Jeff @kryptonites lock division.
He is the guy in charge of the so called "lock exchange program", that they mentioned on their webasite....Kryptonite.com.
Did anyone else have any luck getting a prepaid label as they suggested would have happened by now for many of the tubular disc locks? Has anyone been given an exchange? Please let me know, this is upsetting they are not taking care of us in a professional manner!!!!!!!
hondardr 12-02-2004, 10:48 AM Yep, just what I thought, 40 some views and not one person has heard from Kryptonite thus far....well that is the last lock set up I purchase from them.........good bye krypto! er I mean Bicto-lock!
Ok so what lock set-up are you all using currently?? I need some advice on this one. Please hold off on the sarcasm, dogs, shotguns etc. and no I dont own a garage

Hold on there. Maybe none of us that looked at this thread have the product. It takes time for a response sometimes. Alot people don't look here that often. Push this up again in a couple days if you don't get a response.
Good luck.
RChang42 12-02-2004, 11:21 AM I have been reluctant to send in my lock b/c I am not sure the replacement they will send me will suit my needs (locking up the front disks)....
I have posted other threads asking if anyone recieved those locks... but just like you, I recieved no responses.
good luck.
SheSpawn 12-02-2004, 01:56 PM I have recieved no pre-paid package to send my locks back and I put in my request quite some time ago, honestly I have forgotten about it with all my moving going on, thanks for making me mad!
j/k, actually I have been using a kryptonite cable lock I had bought for when my husband and I go riding, so I could chain our bikes together if we went to eat or something. It works great and has a key lock. It is bigger, heavier and probably wont fit in your trunk, but I like it. If I am somewhere I can lock my bike to a fixture at least I have that option now, plus I can run it through both rotors and position the lock part where it is very difficult to pick. It has a key lock, not a tubular lock, so no bic pen there.
Hope that helped a little, sorry for the delayed response don't look here that often.
hondardr 12-03-2004, 04:15 PM thanks SheSpawn, Rchang42
I appreciate the feedback, I know not to many of us check this area but I didnt feel right placing the Krypto name in the general discussion area.
And clutchslip- this is not a new thread as SheSpawn mentioned the "lock exchange" was intitated way back on September 22, of this year. This info was on the general diss. forum originally.
And yes I am way passed pissed in dealing with them and now especially since I have heard of NO-ONE receiving an "posatage paid label" as promised. If anyone else wants to get some fire under their arses...Krypto's phone number is 1-800-SAYLOCK. you can also get in touch with the liason (who is usually out) @ Jeff_Martin@irco.com.
Also if it helps I have attached the email I rec'd way back on Sept. 30th below...............

SheSpawn 12-03-2004, 04:25 PM Got hte same cookie cutter e-mail, but no pre-paid envelope yet. If I didn't already ahve my cable lock I would not have bought another Krypto, but since I had it, I am quite pleased with it and would suggest to any future owners to bypass the disc lock and jsut get the calbe, offers more security anyway, if you wan carry the weight.
hondardr 12-03-2004, 05:42 PM Thanks again Kat, but where the heck do you carry the cable & lock while on the 1000RR?
I will have to price one soon, as I am not happy about the disc problem.
And one more ?, how long of a cable did you purchase and what thickness is the cable and what brand of lock?
SheSpawn 12-03-2004, 06:30 PM hmmm
lets look at my structions and see if they tell me the specs, but first, I carry the cable in my small backpack I always have when riding (or purse if that is hte case)
aparently the cable is 5' that's a lot of cable, I dunno if it is 12mm or 8 mm though, its pretty thick but I can't say for sure. It came with a little clock key though, yeah like I needed that.
I just like the idea of chaining it to something when I can, then again I had a bike stolen straight out of my garage, so I am uber paranoid.
The18thletter 12-03-2004, 07:30 PM Has anybody seen the new lock they are making to replace that BS that was out before?
hondardr 12-04-2004, 07:28 AM Thanks Kat for the cable info!! I am on my way to check one later today. I dont ride with a small back pack but may have to get a tank bag to carry stuff in anyway. My two dogs will suffice for now as I always keep the bike in the back yard close to them. I beleive my dogs love the CBR as much as I do...grrrrrrrrrrr...
And great question 18thletter, No i have not seen what kind of replacement lock Krypto is replacing the tubular locks with. I sure wish they would get back to me or someone on this board. I am going to recheck their w.site and see if their are any pics of replacements.
hondardr 12-04-2004, 07:36 AM right from the krypto site is the news I wanted to hear...delay delay delay
If you have a DFS or KryptoDisco and do not want to wait until January to exchange your lock, we will be happy to exchange it now for one of Kryptonite’s “Molly” locks. The photo and description of this lock can be viewed at this URL . It has a 3” shackle and may work well on some motorcycles. If you want this option, please send your name, shipping address and lock information to Kryptonite@irco.com with the subject “DFS/Molly Lock Exchange” or “KryptoDisco/Molly Lock Exchange”. If not, you are in the system to have your lock replaced in January with the upgraded version of your lock.
As further information becomes available we will post it to our website at www.kryptonite.com and be sending email updates, as needed.
hondardr 12-04-2004, 07:39 AM again I hope this helps everyone waiting for a repalcement lock..disc, etc.
On their site there is a link to a replacement "Molly" lock that you can get now, but I think i want to wait till they reengineer the disc lock..most likely smaller and more compact.................
If anyone is looking for a new lock that wont be picked with a pen, check out Xena Security. They make some pretty top notch stuff.

hondardr 12-04-2004, 07:58 AM thanks will do on that....
Groom51 12-08-2004, 04:01 PM They sent me my UPS forms this week. Just got them Monday. Granted, I requested them in late Oct. or early Nov.
I'm happy with Kryptonite, and thankful that they're replacing my stuff. They don't have to you know.
hondardr 12-08-2004, 09:30 PM wow Groom51, you got your UPS forms and you stated you sent your requests in early October/November?? Man I emailed my stuff directly to the Krypto website as they requested on Sept. 22, 04 and I have Zip, like so many others here. something doesnt sound right here..............you must be the only one who has actually rec'd anything from Kryptonite.
Oh and your right about your statement , "THEY DONT HAVE TO DO"?
Wha the frig? If i pay 40 bucks for a disc lock that can picked with a .99 bic pen, you better believe they better stand by their product and I for one will hold them to it, period!
SheSpawn 12-08-2004, 10:24 PM I must say I disagree with they dont have to. THey pissed off so many people. How many people lost a bike because of faulty workmanship, and we trusted them with our loved ones (bikes).
They have a guarantee ont eh lock when you buy it, if someone breaks it, they will give you mad cash. Well I think the bic pen is a loophole. At any rate, if they didn't replace them, it would be the kiss of death to them. I for one am going to continue using my krypto cable lock, and maybe buy another one if I need it. If they refused to eplace it, I know I would not only have neverbought another kryptonite, I would have told everyone I know not to too. Its just smart business to replace them, or they will go out of business and they see that. therefore, I think they have to.
bdlstyle 12-09-2004, 10:19 AM Thats gotta be costing them a fortune. Glad I dont have any stock in kryptonite. ouch!!!!!!!
bdlstyle
hondardr 12-09-2004, 03:11 PM Good point SheSpawn, you tell them!!!
I totally forgot the statement on their products re: payment.
And again I dont have any sympathy for a faulty product and its parent company that does not take care of their customer base IN A TIMELY MANNER........................
SheSpawn 12-09-2004, 04:56 PM Well, in somewhat of a defense of their slow response, you have to imagine how many requests they got for replacement locks I may venture to say in the many of millions. It has to take time to verify the lock # as well as all the paperwork they have to do, so that in itself doesn't make me mad, howver, they could have allowed for a merchant exchange or something a little more time effective. We don't know their reasoning for choosing the route they did, so I don't feel I can effectively say they are rigth or wrong.
Just my $.03
Groom51 12-09-2004, 06:56 PM You can disagree all you want, but the fact remains: They made a good product, and evil people found a way around it. It's not their fault, and in a business lawsuit, I highly doubt they'd be found liable.
As long as they can prove in good faith that they tried to make a pick-proof product. And really people, use the grey matter, as if a company like Kryptonite wanted to screw over thousands of people.
Saying that they OWE us new locks is like saying the people who want to sue McDonalds are 'right.'

you make a very good point here. When people figured out how to unlock a car door with a coat hanger, you did not see all the car manufacturers recalling cars and replacing them. Not a bad product, bad people made the product not work. I give Kudos to Kryptonite for doing anything about it.

Exactly!!!!
I am overjoyed that Kryptonite is rectifying this problem. They don't have to; and by doing so, they're going to earn my business for life probably!
hondardr 12-11-2004, 08:17 AM You know when you really think about it, good product/bad product it really comes down to one thing and one thing only;
CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! Kryptonite has not done the right thing in a timely manner for the conusmer or our 1000rr base. Groom51 seems to be thrilled and I am thrilled for him, he has rec'd a prepaid lable and with over 200 views on this topic, NO-ONE has yet to receive anything from Krypto-bicto. So we can all rationalize all we want about coat hangers/evil people/dodge ball joints, etc. The fact is responsible manufactures RESPOND when there is "Concern" over there product ........after all isnt that why we have this particular forum. May you all enjoy a peacefull day, I will be out riding.................

Did Kryptonite ever personally guarantee you that their lock would never ever be able to be overcome with a bic pen?
The fact that they have even hinted at doing anything at all for the consumer in this case is a testament to their customer service. Believe it or not, they actually may have sold some to other people than are on this forum. Maybe they even got in line first for a replacement when it was offered. It took the company a few years to produce the amount of locks that were sold. It may actually take a little time to make the replacement and still manufacture other locks that will be sold as well. They have responded. If it is not quick enough for you, then go buy someone elses lock.

Now is that really a valid question?
In response to your second statement............DULY NOTED.
Groom51 12-13-2004, 12:43 PM I sent my locks off this weekend. I have two identical 5 ft 'gorilla chains' that need the kept mech replaced. These are the cross braided stainless steel ones that are about 1.5 inches in diameter, and coated in plastic. I use them to secure my dirt bike(s) and dirt gear (fuel can, ramp, etc.) while I am out in the desert.
For my street bike, I use their 'NY Fogeddaboutit' chain. 5 feet of links that are 11mm twisted hex shaped, boron-manganese coated, hardened steel. This particular chain is registered with Kryptonite, and they will pay my deductable if my street OR dirtbikes are stolen with it on there!!!
Talk about security! Kryptonite really knows what they are doing IMO. As stated I am happy about the turn around on my bike chains.
To the unsatisfied customers- Allow me to ask you this question: Did you fill out and send in your warranty card that came with your locks??? I sent in all three of mine within days of purchasing each lock. The warranty card was a HUGE piece of cardboard attached to the lock asking for ALL kinds of information. Did you fill it out and send it in?
Maybe Kryptonite is warrantying 'registered' customers first?

NOW THAT IS CUSTOMER SERVICE AT ITS BEST...HAH!
Again the fact remains with almost 250 views NO ONE has rec'd a lock exchange or a prepaid label. I would love to hear from someone else who has. Please speak up..........anyone anyone.........
oh and FYI- I did submit my warranty info and also subimitted my info to them on the very FIRST day of the lock exchange program..Sept. 22, 04.
Groom51 12-13-2004, 05:42 PM Again the fact remains with almost 250 views NO ONE has rec'd a lock exchange or a prepaid label.
I got my prepaid label on like the 4th or 5th of this month (end of the first week of Dec. or beginning of the 2nd week of Dec.) This label came via e-mail that I just printed and slapped on the box. It was only for 8 lbs. but the UPS guy said that any remaining weight would be paid for my the shippers purchase order number...
I sent the locks back to Kryptonite on Saturday the 11th of Dec. before I went riding.
We'll just have to see what the turnaround is. I am not sure why I got mine and no one else did. I only said "warranty card?" because I was thinking of variables that may have hindered the process for some?
:?:
hondardr 12-13-2004, 07:02 PM Groom51,
man again I meant anyone besides you....
Groom51 12-13-2004, 07:38 PM Groom51,
man again I meant anyone besides you....
Oops, sorry...
hondardr 12-15-2004, 03:02 PM OK OK OK, for all who really want this info re: the lock exchange of the disc lock from Krypto......I just rec'd this email from Steve Knight over at Krypto.
It seems the date now has been pushed back farther back then originally detailed on the site. Let me remind everyone, that I was sent an email that stated they would be sending Locks out in Mid-October, then it was changed to November, then on the site just 2 weeks ago it stated January now on this recent (today) email it is going to be March......man resus and Groom you can tout this company all you want. They are song and dancing here big time!!!
READ FOR YOURSELF .....below is the actual email rec'd today.
The KryptoDisc locks are still being re-engineered and as stated on our
website won't be available for exchange until March. If you have any
further questions feel free to contact me.
Best regards,

Groom51 12-16-2004, 01:13 PM Again, I cannot figure out why they would do some, and not others.
Maybe they are doing "attached locks" first? (i.e. mine were directly connected to the chain itself)
No ideas. I'll post up when I get mine back.
Groom51 01-17-2005, 08:53 PM I got them. My webcam is the shittiest thing eV4r so I am just attaching one small yet crappy pic as proof. The new lock mechanisms are cool!!!
<- Kryptonite Kustomer for Life!!
The_Doctor 01-17-2005, 09:11 PM Excellent!
bdlstyle 01-18-2005, 08:37 AM Can we get a better pic, please? And do the new locks look like they are pretty durable and good quality. Hence will they be somewhat of a deterent?
bdlstyle
hondardr 01-21-2005, 10:40 AM thanks Groom, but that pic doesnt really show much detail as to the lock itself. Can you describe it for us, and as asked before does the lock look as if it will be a detterent?.....thanks still waiting for my label!
fehren2800 01-21-2005, 10:51 AM I just sent my lock in yesterday. I too had about given up hope of getting a replacement but I just got the UPS label this week and sent my lock in. All I had to supply was the box and some time. I hope to have my new lock in a few weeks. Right now it isn't a big deal as I keep my bikes garaged and there is a foot of snow outside. I only used the lock on a cross country trip as I make a habit of never leaving my bike out of sight unless it is safe in my garage.
It sucks to keep waiting, but I suppose they get to the customers in the order the exchange was filed. :?

Keep waiting, huh?
Suppose they get to customers in order of the exchange, whaaa?
I responded on the very first day of the recall...SEPT. 22, 04.
I am thrilled you got a UPS label, but what style of lock did you have Fehren? you must not have had the Disc Lock (like me), for Krypto's website actually states they wont be replacing those till March.
Well at least that makes two people on this site that have actually rec'd one from them. I for one will be calling them back again...........and anyone who needs their number here it is...........

hondardr 01-25-2005, 10:58 AM I just got off the phone with Krypto and they confirmed what I thought.
The new version of the KryptoDiscLock that I and others use on the disc rotors are not re-engineered as of yet. So for us the wait continues........
...............................FYI
NH1000RR 01-27-2005, 10:33 PM I got the prepaid UPS label about a month ago and I have already received a replacement for the hardwire cable lock. The disk locks are backordered now and I'm still waiting on the replacement for this. The new cable lock uses a conventional looking key.
G-Man 02-07-2005, 08:56 PM Nope, I was notfied via e-mail that my RMA return label was pending but never received it.
hondardr 02-13-2005, 04:16 PM If anyone is still holding thier breath waiting for a Krypto-"DISC lock" replacement, and has followed this post from its origin ..wayback on September 22, 04.....Keep waiting!!! For no-one as of yet, has rec'd a round key "disc lock" replacement.......will update if that changes. the supposed date was March! Lets see.........
Marrk 03-05-2005, 07:13 PM I skimmed this thread, didn't read all of it, but I wanted to say that last fall Kyptonite exchanged my EV Disc lock for a new lock and, on their own initiative, replaced two big u-locks I bought in the 1980s. And they paid shipping. (The shipping, as I recall, was a little funky to straighten out, since it had to do with e-mail receipts, blah blah blah, but they paid.
hondardr 03-06-2005, 09:50 AM Hey Marrk, glad for your replacement EV & U-locks,
but Krypto still hasn't sent out any "RE-Enginereed" Krpto-Disc Locks, the ones that most of us use to lock the rotors.
Myself and many others still await these KRYPTO-DISCs, and have been since the company had our registrations way back on September 22, 04. It is now March and this was the supposed date of shipment....oh well....................................
hondardr 03-16-2005, 03:32 PM Ok, its seems that Kryptonite has finally published their Settlement Re: the "round tubular Locks." Yes they where being sued! If you are interested in how this affects you, especially if you had a bike/cycle stolen while locked with this style "round-key" of lock you should read this pdf document.
http://www.kryptonitesettlement.com/docs/Ingersoll_Notice.pdf
It explains that the lock exchange is only one of the options, there is also a voucher program & stolen cycle section with instructions on how to properly claim from them. Please read carefully. It seems then that Krypotnite wasnt acting out of kindness, as some had suggested eariler when they offered thier lock-exchange.
And yes I am still awaiting my exchange for the disc-lock?????
