Well my arai is about 12 years old...so it was time for a new one. Found this bell on closeout and don't have arai money right now so picked it up. Wore it last night....wasn't as comfortable as my arai but save final judgment for when it's broke in. Just thought I'd share.
Over all it is comfortable. The padding is just new and stiff. After 12 years my arai padding was well broke in. The chin strap feel a a tiny bit off from the arai. Weight feels similar to me. There's a fabric flap at chin level that I don't particularly like...I assume it is to keep sound out. But the only sound it stops is the bike....wind noise is similar to maybe a bit louder. It was a close out for just about 200. So over all I feel it was well worth the money. I'm just a creature of habit and was so used to the arai.
Yes...there's a couple youtube videos showing it being done...glad I looked it up. That fabric chin piece is removable. May try to ride without and see how loud it is.
If I remember correctly I tried on a medium Bell helmet (medium) and it fit tight around the crown of my head in comparison to my Arai (medium). I could also be wrong though because I tried on so many different brands: Shoei (medium) was so tight I could barely squeeze the helmet past my temples and it hurt bad to pull it off; definitely would have to go to large, and same with AGV too ..
From what I've read it's all about head shape. Different manufacturers make different shaped helmets. So they're each going to feel different. The bell felt snugger up top than around cheeks but it minimal for me. Both arai and bell were large.
I understand l...figured it was something like that. Just being silly.
