Huh? There was never any recall for oil burning on the 08. Those dots (punch marks) by the VIN are for a clutch basket recall and hose clamp recall.
Well you tell me why my crank and rings are getting replaced for free because of the burning oil issue...and not my basket nor hose clamps

If those were not done, they have to be done now. Clutch and hose clamp recal. And there is waranty for the crankshaft, on the rings, you have been lucky.

Honda extended the warranty on the crankshaft and possibly a few other things but it wasn't a recall. If it was a recall all of us would have received a notice in the mail to bring our bikes in for a free ring and crank replacement, whether it was burning oil or not.

How can I tell if my bike is covered under the crank warranty? It's an 08 and it dose burn oil and I have a slight engine whine. But I have a lot of aftermarket electronics on the bike, z-fi, z-afm, z bomb, speedo drd, gear indicator, and quickshifter. Would I have to take all that off before I went to the dealer with it??? Or could I just take it in as is?

Here's a thread with the letter that every owner received which tells about the extended crank warranty. As far removing the aftermarket parts I personaly would since Honda is probably looking for any reason to not honor the warranty.

Warranty Extension Notice for 08-10 1000RR related to abnormal crankshaft noise.

Thanks for the link to that letter. Hmmm I would love to get that fixed! I would just hate to take all the time to in un-install all my mods only to have them give me a hard time about the warranty replacement. It took me like 2 weeks to get everything on... Damn I can't decide what to do?
