08 oil burning issue. Big enough deal to buy an 09 model instead?

Hello,

I'm for sure set on buying a 08-2011 fireblade next season but ive read alot about the 08 oil burning issue. Im sure thats why 08 fireblades are usually alot cheaper to pick up than 09 models. My gsxr 750 burns oil too, and it has 36,000 miles on it and ive never really had an issue with it oil burning. My only concern is that if the 08 oil burning causes a lack of hp or sluggish engine response. 08 vs 09 models seem to be 1500-2500 dollars cheaper so if i were to buy a 09 i want to make sure its for a valid reason and not a small issue. Anything helps, please let me know what you guys have concluded from what im sure has been countless threads about the issue. Thanks!

Well basically the 08 oil burn issue is t really a big deal, I have an 08 I burn oil I just pay attention to the level of the oil itself, on top of that if you were to buy the bike check the vin it should have "dots" on it which shows the recal of the burning oil issue has been rectified (crank replaced as well as the rings) ask them if it was completed as well, if it hasn't have them fix it for you if you buy the bike it's 100% free but takes time.y bike is in the shop and it has almost been 1.5 months and I don't have it back but if you think about it, I rode the bike for nearly 14k miles and its pretty much getting a face lift with new crank and rings so technically a new motor lol, just if you buy an 08 just pay attention to the oil level you'll be fine, if money isn't an issue just buy a newer one

The reason the 08s were cheaper is because Honda overbuilt that model year right before the recession hit. They discounted the factory price as well as offered a $2,500 rebate. The end result was a price tag slightly under $7,000 for a brand new one from the dealer at one time.

Huh? There was never any recall for oil burning on the 08. Those dots (punch marks) by the VIN are for a clutch basket recall and hose clamp recall.

Mine does not burn oil, very little, maybe a half quart on 3000 miles if you push it allways to redline,it has 8500 miles.
