Well, I bought a 2012 and the colors were :
white w/ all american stripes
(Not a fan of the patriotic ride look)
black
(I initially wanted to get it vs red .. my previous ride was a red/black 600rr .. but when I went to check it out it was something about the glossy/matte black... there wasn't enough contrast.. and I like contrast in coloring.. it looked dull and beat to be honest)
Red
(Well, its not exactly red.. it's red/black/white.. the most powerful color combination .. there's a reason why you see it so often.. look at the site's color scheme for instance.. At first I thought the 'red' 1000rr was too red but then i saw it in person and the body panels are broken up quite nicely w/ black surfaces ..)
So, why lots of red/black/white bikes? Because its the most powerful/contrasting color combination. Odo from a civic si :
As far as car being red.. Never, my civic si is black... reason why I would never get a car in red vs a moto? Motos have lots of different surfaces and design minded manufacturers tend to splice them w/ black.. A car in red is just red.
Look at all the black that's on the 'red' 1000rr :

Hardly a red bike. Nearly half of it is black .. I was thinking, if they put graphics on it, it would look even better .. but then when I saw it in person it seemed like it was already perfected w/ the strategic black surfaces.
That high minded design life.
