Anyone have a clue as to how to remove the gear shift spindle needle bearing on the '05 CBR1000RR? There seems to be no room on the back side for a blind bearing removal tool to grasp? Any advice would be appreciated.
Found this in the 2004 Service manual section 12-9, I don't know if it applies to the 2005 or not. Looks like the gearshift spindle needle bearing is in the linkage cover, I'm guessing they can be removed with a drift tool and/or pressed in/out.
I am unable to post attachments in this forum, it may be better to ask in the general discussion forum.
Thanks for the reply. I have similar pics in the 05 Shop Manual. Problem is the bearing sits flush against a lip of the inside over the spindle cover. This prevents pushing on the backside of the bearing as well as no grip area for a bling bearing removal tool. I was able to remove the dust cover ring by heating the cover, and was able to move the bearing to create a small space on the backside of the bearing, but prolly not enough for a blind bearing removal tool to get a grip. Hard to move the bearing without it binding in the cover. Maybe able to get a blind bearing removal tool to get a grip on the inside of the bearing, with the rollers removed.
Makes sense now, I didn't realize it couldn't be pushed through because of the lip on the backside. Advance Auto Parts (and other auto parts stores) typically have free rental on specialty tools. Looks like they carry one so maybe they rent them also:
Soaked with Airkriol overnite, heated the outside of the spindle case & then punched out the bearing, hitting the inside of the outer edge of the bearing at 12, 6, 3, & 9 o'clock till it finally gave loose....all with the help of an old timer friend. Yeah, it'l be good to ride again!!!!!
