Somewhere else I wrote about these tires and included pics of how mine looked around 9,000 mi. Well it turns out I rode them for even longer after that. By the time they were changed, they were down to the wear markers, but still had tread.
10,000 mi. PLUS @ 33psi on a CBR1000, ridden hard in most turns, up to 160mph at least a few times, and 90mph most other times. These things really do stick in warm weather.
I just went out and got the exact same tires again! (Well, I can't say exact because the size on the old front was weird, but the replacement is the actual Honda recommended size.)
Great tire! I got over 9500 miles on my Angels. I'm on BT-023's right now, but once I wear them out I'm going back to the Angels. I like the way the Angels fall into turns compared to the Bridgestones, which are a little slower to turn in.
Sounds good. I'm hoping to get at least 10k out of my Bridgestone BT-016s. 5,500 miles down and 4,500 to go and they still look great. I keep them at 34F/40R.
You won't get 10,000 miles out of 016's. They're not a sport touring tire like all the above mentioned tires are. I'm actually surprised you've gotten 5500 out of them.
I got 9,000 out of a Pilot Road 2 on the 1098S. I have a Road 3 on the Aprilia now (rear only). I'm a believer in the sport touring tire on the street.
I've heard nothing but great things about the pilot road 3s. Question what tire are u running on front. Heard that the pilot powers on front make a great set
Don't under estimate sport touring front tires. They offer great grip. When I take my 2 hour trip up to the mountains for some twisties I've never had one slip. Neither the Pirelli Angel or the Bridgestone BT023 I'm running now.
I've gotta revive this not-too-old thread because it's a decision I'm trying to make right now.
The tires I'm on now are race take-offs. Dunlop Qualifiers I think. They've been okay but a little slippery across tar-snakes and paint arrows, even when hot. It doesn't help to build confidence in a new rider.
With these, worse than the Diablo Corsas before them, they square off and make the bike no fun and down right scary to ride. I ride long miles on my '07 up and down the SoCal area, touring, commuting. But I only have one set of wheels so once a month when I want to ride the canyons...it's the same tires.
My choices right now are another set of race takeoffs for cheap, Angels, or Power Pures. I'm not an experienced enough rider to make an intelligent decision. I don't know how much grip I'm giving up with Angels vs. the Pures.
I've run the PR3 several times on different bikes on the street. Usually get about 4300 on rear tire and 3:1 to the front. Great tires on front and back in twisties
I have recently put a set of Angels on my 07' and I do not think I will use something else again . Really nice tires , one or two people on the bitch . Low or hi speeds . I went for a 190 / 50 at the rear .
I'm thinking about putting Angels on...I really am. Its not even about the money so much as the useable millage...one the tires are square it just sucks to ride. I'm just nervous about ST tires on the machine, especially because I'm so new, it wouldn't take much for me to cross a line I didn't know I had drawn closer to the edge by running ST rubber.
They're rated for 168. Do some research on them and watch the youtube video where the Angels broke 7 records during a non-stop 24 hour endurance test on a Hayabusa where the average speed was 130+ for the full 24 hour test.
Was doing 280 km/h (174mp/h ) the other morning on my way to work with the two angels . Superb . Named them my Guardian Angels . Well done Pirreli . Just fricken awesome rubber mate .
I ran a set of the diablo strada (precursor to the Angels) on my FJR a while back. I got about 14k out of the front and about 11k out of the rear. that was on a much heavier bike, but I also did two track days (two up at Barber and Talladega) and many miles in the SE mountains (Ga, NC, SC and TN) as well as commuting 140 miles a day. ran well and lasted a long time you just have to keep an eye on the pressures (like all tires!).
I had 800p miles in each set of pilot powers I put on..too bad r10s don't last that long
