Sometimes brake pads can shift in the calipers. Place the front wheel against a wall and pump the front end (no brakes). Is the noise still there?

Also, sometimes just the fork springs move around under pressure. When moving the bike, if you apply the brakes hard and the nose dives down, sometimes it's just the spring moving, making a big clunk sound. I get that all the time. Also, if not that, check the calipers as mentioned or maybe go into the forks and pull out the springs and see if there's any preload spacers or tubes in there (if you got it used from another person).
