Spend your money on gear AND on learning to ride the thing. Get thee to California Superbike School instead of blowing all that coin on that carbon fiber bling and a loud exhaust.
I think I get it, Gucci flip flops instead of ones from the dollar store!!!!
In all seriousness I'm atgatt even when is 90 degrees out or I'm just running to the store. I don't have the most expensive top of the line gear but I do have the best gear I can afford and I'm always upgrading when I find good deals.
Some of the lesser quality stuff is still tons more protection then having no gear but they are generally no good after one crash. My alpinstars one piece for instance, has been through 3 track crashes and has nothing but scuff marks, cheap gear would of had to been replaced all 3 times.
Agree 100% - Can't afford the gear more expensive than my bike though but definitely been wearing the riding gear all year....with a few exceptions to the store or Starbucks even though i know thats when an accident is likely to occur.
I agree with spending as much as you can afford. It's better to have a quality mesh jacket and pants than nothing. Just know that mesh, or any textile gear, will be a once-and-done deal. It'll protect you in a slide once and they you'll be replacing it unless you've bought the Motoport or 'stich gear - they repair those but they are also expensive. Also know that the cheaper mesh gear like the $100 specials on Joe Rocket mesh may only last a season or two and then you'll be looking for a replacement.
For my street riding I got a great deal on an A* two-piece set of leathers. I like the A* because the jackets are full length and can be worn by themselves with my mesh pants or jeans if I'm just tootling around town. Any serious riding, I'm fully dressed. I thought this was a very economical solution because it'll be good for many years; good for both street and track; and is acceptable for tracks days at the tracks and schools I attend. Rider's Discount will sell these suits at close to cost if you ask them and I got my A* GP Pro 2-piece, lists for $1099, for $800 and some change. After two years of track days the only wear showing is on the knee sliders
