Just finished wheeling it down to the basement for its 5 month long hibernation. I'll still be riding off and on during the winter, just not on a motorcycle. A group of us have a 200 km ride planned for New Year's Day. It might be 15*F or it might be 40*F.

Well.... Im quite new here, I purchased this bike late last night and its in need of a rebuild. So i spent the morning, Pulled the motor, Inspected a bit, cleaned the frame and wiring.

Now tomorrow ill be tearing apart the motor completely and assessing damage. This bike has 1 broken connecting rod and needs a substantial amount of work. Ill probably start a little build thread on it as I will be going with forged internals, porting, ill also be going for an overbore.

It looks like that last spamming thread to get to 100 posts the other day didn't go over so well with the mods. You were less than 10 posts short. That could have easily been made up with a handful of regular posts in 1-2 more days.

On the bike price before they deleted your post, I didn't think it would have sold at that price anyway but we're not supposed to comment on prices directly in the thread. I know you had some mods added to it but most people do not care about those, just the price. You had it listed for more than that model year was selling for brand new at one time. With a factory rebate and factory price slash, the 08's were selling for a little under $7K in the fall of 2009 brand new from the dealer with 0 miles.

Disappointed I wasn't on here to catch that one.
He's lucky lexus rx isn't here or he would have got a permanent ban.

Little update on this, Ive pulled the motor apart and inspected the damage, aside from the large hole at the case seam its worse, the main oil passage directly from the pump to the cooler is blasted apart, the crank is extremely damaged and the head has 2 bent valves :/ So I've ordered a new motor for it today and should have it saturday, then i will install and hopefully have the bike up and running A1 by then. now its time to read about the "flapper" mods and other things that people do to stock bikes, since the motor is out, i may pull the head and quickly take ~.010'' off and bump the compression up. Still loads of reading to do as I have 0 experience with these bikes/this motor. any quick advice or places to start looking would be appreciated.

cheers

Except for my old 1100 Yamaha back in the 80s, I don't do engine rebuilds. However, these engines are already fairly high compression. I wouldn't mess with raising it even higher due to reliability and overheating.
