FS: 2012-2016 ECU (P/N: 38770-MGP-L82)

In stock or flashed form, this particular ECU can be used on the following model years:

  • 2014 (5AC, AC)
  • 2015 (3AC, 5AC, 7AC)
  • 2016 (AC)

If you'd like to purchase this ECU specifically for flashing, it can also be used on the below years:

  • 2012 (3AC, AC)
  • 2013 (3AC, 5AC, AC)

**Check out Puff's posts in this thread. It may be possible to flash this ECU for use on the 2008 - 2011 model years; but you should probably reach out to Puff, or another reliable source, to make sure.

FYI this is should work on all 08-16 bikes Only issue might be with some 08/09 bikes without O2 sensors. If anyone gets this and ends up with a CEL, I can fix that for free, just send me a PM.

Hmmm...really? Dude, that's what I was hoping when I bought it. I was going to use it as a spare just for flashing. I figured all they're going to do is write new code over the old code. But then I was told of some changes that were made to the 2014 bikes, and that I'd be better of using my original ECU. So I literally just shipped it off for flashing, like 5 minutes ago...

Oh well...next time. Thanks for the heads up Puff 👍🏼

PGM-FI is the fuel management software that runs on Honda ECUs. Its basically an operating system like Android, it runs on lots of different hardware, but depending on hardware some features are turned on/off and different bikes clearly need different settings. Every few years there are updates to the core PGM-FI software but the changes are super minimal and not performance related at all. Clearly the ECUs need to be recalibrated when there are mechanical differences, like when the compression ratio changes. However, with that being said, the changes between the different region tunes (ie. US vs EU maps) are greater than the differences within regions across years (i.e. US 2012 vs US 2014). Also, with very few exceptions, you can swap the bins on any ECUs that share the same 3 digit code after the 38770. For example, all the 12-16 ECUs are 38770-MGP, they are all bin compat. I use the 38770-MGP-D62 EU bin for the base image for all my 12-16 mail-in flashes regardless of what the original ECU was running.

Cool, good stuff. I always wondered about the different part numbers. Always thought it was some kind of Honda ploy lol. Apparently it is, and it isn't.

Gonna have to update my ad, now.
