I currently have an 07 yamaha road star warrior that I want to trade in on an 08 cbr 1000rr. The local dealer quoted me $10,600 for one. Just wondering if this is a fair price, and what my walk away price should be. Thanks for your help guys Im sure there will be many more questions to come- after I have used the search feature first of course.

Eh!!! That's too much!

Are you being serious? I paid $10,500 OTD and I thought that was really good?

Im sure he means, right now bacause riht now to pay that price for an 08 is crazy, I paid 10.1 out the door for my 08 back in July.
it's a fair price, but you could probably get them down some more since the '09s are out. the invoice on the '08 was $10,075
Doesnt soiund too bad to me considering that is what I just paid. The best deal I could find in several states wa $9450 OTD and that was before the April 1 price increases. That increase brought it up to $9958 not including the 5% sales tax. I got prices at atleast five dealers for 2009s that no one had on the floor yet and they all began at $13k before tax, doc, and setup fees. Considering no one had the 09s and would not haggle, I opted to save money and buy the same bike (just not the white and silver I wanted originally) for thousands less. There are only 3 2008s left in the state that I know of, and 2 left in the neighboring state that I know of so that also help me justify the purchase.
I paid 10,400. Dec.31st the invoice was 11,900 East coast
Too much I paid 9895 OTD in Maryland...Robbery Capital for Motorcycles of the world last year in July. Put the dude in the verbal rear naked choke and tell him $9000 OTD...then work in your trade...IMO
Bloodstripe is correct I am talking about right now. Sounds like I should offer them ten flat and hopefully we both walk away saying suckerrrrrrr.

EDIT: now that I read The18thletters's post maybe he will be the only one saying suckerrr on the ten flat offer.
Whatever you want to do is good but I got it for less and since the 09's are out with ABS you got some leeway.
Ok ten it is then. I can't wait to join the sportbike world. How is the transition from cruiser to sportbike? I will be loosing 700cc's I hope it has enough power for me!!!! Ok before 20 people flame me that was a joke. I realize it will have more power than I will ever use. Again thanks for your help guys.
Welcome, GL on the RR. 10K is the walk away including taxes. They're either dealing or lying in my area.
10499 OTD in Southern AZ(Sierra Vista) Awesome dealership, and this was in Nov before the '09's arrived. Why would the April price increase affect a leftover 08 if they have been sitting here since last March? Sounds like BS.

i really hope you didn't pay for the april increase for an '08. that price increase only affects bikes that hit the dealer's floor from april 1st and after. anything that was sitting there before is not subject to increase unless your dealer is a con artist

Do your research. Look into the cycle traders, KBB, NADA to figure a fair trade price.

It's a fair price ... FOR HIM. I wouldn't pay a dime over $10k OTD. What part of the country are you in? It may help other members give you a heads up on what they paid and where.

Thanks for your help guys Im sure there will be many more questions to come- after I have used the search feature first of course.
Welcome and fire away with the questions if you don't find what you're looking for with the search function.

How is the transition from cruiser to sportbike?
Although I've never owned or ridden a cruiser, I'd guess something akin to a transition from mini-van to sportscar.
NADA Value Average 7635
NADA Value Low 6850
NADA Value High 9370

I paid 10,300 in February (Everything w/o sales tax) and I think it was a fair price (meaning fair to both the dealer and me) It was from my local dealer. As a business owner I prefer to give my business to other local people - Just my thing. I wasn't going to waste my time shopping deals over 100 miles away just to save a few bucks.
I just picked up mine last week for $9,400 OTD in New Hampshire, then had to pay 5% sales tax when I registered in in Massachusetts of course. Commonly known as TAXACHUSETTS.
