2011 1000RR. Finally got everything installed, weighed on 2 LB and 35 LB scales.

Stock 530 116 link chain 5.08 LBS
EK 3D GP 520 116 links 3.92 LBS
1.16 LBS saved

Stock 530 16T front sprocket .6 LBS
Renthal 520 15T ultra light steel sprocket .36 LBS
.24 LBS saved

Stock 530 42T steel rear sprocket 1.34 LBS
Renthal Aluminum 43T rear sprocket .596 LBS
.744 LBS saved

Stock sprocket nuts/washers X 6 steel .24 LBS
Pro Bolt aluminum sprocket nuts with SS inserts .068 LBS
.172 LBS saved

Total 2.316 LBS for 520 conversion

I also swapped out the stock rear rotor with a MMR style light weight rotor which saved another .75 LBS. The MMR version might save another .17 LBS.

Overall the weight savings was less than I expected. I spent $336 for those 5 items, replaced perfectly good chain and sprockets. I could have used the DID ERV3 chain and saved $40. It should weigh about the same as the EK 3D GP and the DID is almost as strong, but I wanted the black/gold EK.

I also grabbed a SpeedDRD. My speedo was accurate before the conversion. Now it reads 65 mph when GPS read 60 mph so I will dial in -7.7% correction.

The gear change -1 +1 feels great so I don't regret it. No surprises there, power feels more accessible and I will never miss the top end speed. Should top out at ~165 now but I rarely ever get above 100.

Lithium battery saved 3.5 LBS, was a perfect fit and has not let me down yet. Will be interesting to see if it can hold a charge all winter.

There was a big surprise when I changed my tire. I was on a set of worn out Q3s in 120/60/17 190/50/17 size. The worn 190/50/17 Q3 weighed 10.3 pounds. It still had a bit of tread on the sides and completely worn down in the center, so if it was more evenly worn would have been even lighter.

I replaced it with a 190/55/17 Q3+ which weighed 14.45 pounds. So that is a difference of 4.15 pounds. About 1 pound of that difference was due to the different profile. 190/50 is the lightest and 190/55 is the heaviest. The rest of the weight loss was due to tread wear.

The front tire 120/60/17 Q3 is still on the bike. Brand new it weighed 8.8 pounds. Probably weighs 7 pounds now and I will be changing it soon with a 120/70/17 Q3+. The new tire weighs 10.1 pounds so I will be gaining another 3 pounds there.

I weighed the tire/rim/sprocket/rotor/spacers so I can easily will keep an eye on the tire weight as I put miles on, to get some idea how tire weight relates to mileage and tread depth. I only put 1500 miles on a year so these tires will be around for a few years unless I get to the track.

So if you are dragging a bike I guess you could grab a set of worn in 120/60/17 190/50/17 and knock 7-8 rotational unsprung pounds of your bike. What would that be worth .5 second off the ET of a stock bike?

For what it is worth, the Q3 and Q3+ have been awesome tires on the street. Great feel and grip even with cool road temps

I have an FMF slip on, but already installed Zbomb and gutted the intakes. Before I install the FMF Id like to get Danos ECU reflash or Zfi+AFM or all three. Maybe next season. I do love the sound of Akrapovic but I got the FMF for $100 couldnt pass up that deal.

The FMF muffler and S pipe weighs 2690g (6 LBS)
Not sure how much the stock muffler/cat weighs will find out soon, ~13.5 LBS from what Ive read

AkrapoviÄŤ claims what is removed weighs 13.7 lbs. Their slip-on and pipe weighs 5.3 lbs.

I would love to get the BST set. Not sure if I should get them for this bike or wait until I get a 2017.

According to one seller, BST weighs 9.7 LBS rear (with sprocket carrier, bearings, cush drive, inner race, and “hardware” BUT another ad said the steel bearings add another ~1.1 LBS so 10.8 LBS total
Stock rear = 11.71 rim/bearings/inner race + 2.37 sprocket carrier + .424 cush pads = 14.5 LBS so BST saves 3.7 LBS on the rear for $1900

I know most people would say spend that $1900 on track days and I know they'd be right LOL.

Tire weight differences are often over looked. Here are weights of Michelins I have used on my RZ500 track bike.

Weights of new tires:
Power One "street": F 8.5lb (120/60/17) R 11.9lb (180/55/17)
Power One Competition: F 9.4lb (120/70/17) R 13.9lb (180/55/17)

I could feel the extra rear tire weight of Power One Comps vs. Street, but it was made up for with the grip of the extra and softer rubber

Good info, I have a 120/60/17 Q3 front right now and it rolls right to the edge of the tire unlike most 120/70/17s I have ridden. I can see how that alone would make a difference on your set. That 2 extra pounds on the rear mostly from stiffer sidewalls?

I grabbed a set of track take offs on Craigslist for $100.
Pirelli Supercorsa SP V2 120/70/17 (9.3 new denniskirk) (9.05 LBS sides worn)
Pirelli Supercorsa SP V2 180/55/17 (13.4 new denniskirk) (11.85 LBS sides worn)
The sidewalls on the Pirelli rear are 1 ply and noticeably more flexible than the Q3s, Q3+ and S21

@Bevo- A picture is worth 1,000 words and I wouldn't waste them defending this broken chain. It's very possible and LIKELY that there was a visually imperceptible flaw from manufacturing, but a warranty review will probably deny this one considering the corrosion around the pins.

If you have any doubts, just see post #17.

You guys do realize that the chain pictured broke at the master link right? That is indicative of an improper installation. Most OEM chains are quad-staked at the factory which is a much better way of connecting a chain over an expanded rivet type master which is what they used in that pic.

The 2 most interesting 520 chains for 1000CC are the EK 3D GP and the DID ERV3 (IME). I got a chance to weigh the DID ERV3 520 and compare.

Stock 530 116 links dry worn 12K: 2286g (5.04lbs)
DID ERV3 520 116 links dry worn 5K: 1796g (3.96lbs)
EK 3D GP 520 116 links waxy new: 1761g (3.88lbs)

The DID ERV3 can be found for $120-$130 and the gold does look great when it is clean. I am obsessed shaving every rotating gram and I prefer the black so I will stick with the EK but the ERV3 520 is close in weight which makes it one of the best value performance mods you could do to any sportbike. $0.27/g saved.

Lame pics Ill get some better ones.

I came across a Sunstar countershaft sprocket to compare against the Renthal. They are both 520 15T steel with weight relief. The Sunstar is parkerized and the Renthal has a groove where the weight relief holes are and CNC lines on it. The Renthal is 13 grams lighter, because of the groove I assume. According to Renthal "CNC machined from case hardened and core refined 655M13 Nickel Chromium steel"

OEM 530 16T - 266 grams
Sunstar 39215 520 15T - 174 grams
Renthal 315U-520-15P 520 15T - 161 grams
