Couple of questions to keep these fairings from melting...
I plan on using the Thermotec on the inside of the fairings & wanted to use some heat wrap on the headers & pipes up to the can...However, according the the Akro site, the pipes are Ti & I know you're not supposed to wrap Ti...I was planning on using the DEI wrap & Silicone spray...
So what can I do to maximize protection against heat?
i have aftermarkter fairings as well they melted before i decided to do anything about it then i got the company to send me some new ones and i have taped the f*** out of them (2 layers of the DEI protective heat tape good to 1500 degrees F) and im going to leave the partially melted ones on until i get the chance to take my headers and exhaust off so that i can take them to a company and have them ceramic coated to ensure myself that my fairings will not melt...
I'm trying to save wherever I can & I know it would be less expensive to properly wrap the headers & use the Thermotec...It's going to run me at least $200 to have them coated vs. $80 for the first option...
I'm wondering if it would be ok to just wrap the headers since the pipes are Ti...The reports of melted fairings are from the lowers anyway, right?
ur headers are the cause of the lowers melting in the front and the middle/rear and causes warping of them also. i dont think the midpipe up to the can have ever caused any melting that im aware of anyway. but your not supposed to wrap aftermarket headers or exhaust it could potentially cause them to crack down the road. my .02 is take the time to protect your bike if you really care about the way it looks and performs and get them ceramic coated. dont mess up your 2000 dollar exhaust set up and several hundred dollar fairings to save a 100 bucks...
I understand that, but I'm currently using my stock headers...The Akro is a slip on, so that's why I'm asking...I obviously don't want to jeopardize or sacrifice any quality here, but I have a budget...
oh my bad i thought u had the full system...some of the guys on here have the stock headers wrapped and have no problems. so if you wanna do that id say go for it. they have it and say it works perfectly fine.
