Bike Magazine Comparison Test

I just got it in the mail today (It's a British magazine for those who might not be familiar with it).

They did a four way comparison of the latest liter bikes.

For what it's worth, the Blade came out on top. I've not read all of the test yet.

Surprised none of our British members has mentioned it yet.

No. It was "Bike" magazine.

THe British have ALWAYS been in love with the Blade. Expect some bias in their reveiws...but I ain't mad.
Mehh... Doesn't really matter what order they put any liter bike as long as the OE's keep escallating their game.

Yes, the Brits do love the Blade. British reviews are a big reason I bought one!
where is that review, i have the april issues of bike, two, performancebikes, superbikes, and none of them had a review on all four. PB did one on the r1 vs 1198.
bike just had a write up on the r1. They did comment they think the blade handles way better, but alot has to do with rider comfort (plus who gives writers bonus's)
huh..???
I like how Brits take rider comfort into account. The American mags mention it as a side note and often never give any explanation to there comment. Unless it is a track only bike, this should be a major factor to people. It is to me.
To be clear, yes, ergonomics was a part of the review. Though the GSX-R won on that account. The Blade was too much like a 600 in some tester's opinions (cramped).

The R1 seemed to loose out due to it being wide, heavy, slow to want to turn, and that the power band did not give a good rush at midrange. Several testers noted it was the only bike where they had the rear tire break loose under acceleration, which seemed counter to what the engine was supposed to do. All mentioned that the R1 sounded fantastic though.

It was also admitted that this was a test for road bikes, as they come from the factory. And the Blade won on that account, due to it being basically ready for to go as is, with no mods needed. They admitted the R1 might be a fantastic track bike with some changes, but the test was not supposed to be about that, according to the article.

This is the May issue of Bike magazine btw.

cool..thanx for the info...
BIKE mag placed it Blade 1st, gsxr 2nd, zx10r 3rd, r1 4th
Fast Bikes(a good honest mag) have it blade first, r1 2nd, gsxr 3rd, zx10r last
Fast Bikes said the R1 they have and other ones theyve tried on road did not feel as good as the launch bikes in Australia
the more i ride my cbr 1K, the more i'm convinced it handles as well, if not better, than my 07 R6 did. i'm serious. the bike is amazing and people can hammer on the looks all they want. ride one and you won't give a shit what it looks like! personally i love the looks. small, smooth, and tiny tail. the old 1Ks are big, bulky, big tail. i find it very hard to believe the R1 handles or performs any better.

I had an 08 R6 and my 08 1krr steers quicker at low speed than my R6 did. It's not until over 100 that the extra gyro become noticeable.

good point. make sense.

Honda did an amazing job on these bikes.
I chased down a 09 r1 at the track a couple weeks back. I just managed to squeeze past him before the end of the strait and he tried to outbrake me and ran wide, I passed himup the inside, and never saw himagain.
Personally I dont like the sound either, notwith stock pipes anyway.
So as far as power/acceleration goes I don't rate the new r1 fromwhat I saw.
btw: he was not impressed at all!! :th_SmlyROFL:

i feel the new r1 has more power in the mid range and handles very well, i know all the reviewers say the r1 power delivery is smooth but i think the rr is smoother. if i put them back to back at a track with short straights, the r1 would win hands down, if there are long straights i say they would be neck and neck.

Dyno-wise, the CBR has more torque across the entire rev-band, in every shootout I've read - the CBR also has an "engineering emphasis" on smooth power delivery, for faster lap times ~ I find your statements hard to back up :)
