If you want to run it that way and keep the warranty, have you thought about purchasing a separate ECU? I know it's expensive as fuck and a headache to switch for warranty claims, but that's an option.

No I hadn’t thought about doing that, like a $500 insurance policy. Not a bad idea, thanks!

spare ECU is fairly cheap ($100-$200) if you go used. Not sure how many will be available for the newer models but for the 2016 and older they are pretty easy to come across. No benefit in buying a brand new one IMO

Yeah I did notice the newer the bike the more expensive the ECU. 06-07 used ECU you can pick up for $50. 2008-2011 $80-150
guess that's the price of a new bike!

I would just get the ECU flash. I really doubt a dealer is gonna give you an issue unless the warranty claim is related to the changes made in the ecu.........If you blow a head gasket, throw a rod, spin a crank bearing, etc than I can see them having an issue with you changing timing,AFR, etc. But that's just my thoughts, I would contact the dealer and ask. Be honest with them, tell them what you are doing, and see what they say. Not like you are the first guy to get an ECU flashed.

You should come up with some special forum pricing for the ECU flash + QS ;)
Uhm - that is exactly what Danos Performance has done with this thread.

Any flash effort has to include the license cost and labor component and warranty call back built in. Danos price is reasonable all things considered.

Exactly. I am just fellow rider. Not a tuner like Danos. And this is Danos thread and he does great work.

Is this comparable to woolich? Better, worse, same? I want to tune it but don't want to harm it either.
There seems to be major confusion again :)

Currently there is only 1 commercially viable ECU flashing option in the general market that works correctly on the 2017+ ECU.

Woolich Racing Tuned.

This is the ECU flashing tool Danos uses.

Now I understand. Their literature doesn't mention this. Thanks for clarifying.

Now tell me this...are all tune shops who use this software programming the ECU the same? And so are all tunes then basically the same no matter where you go? Or is there human error and technique involved which makes for variation?

ECU flashing covers essentially 3 areas.

1. Redundant component removal/suppression/elimination
2. Electronic feature management/control/customizing
3. AFR & Ignition optimization for power

1 is just checking or unchecking features. But even then knowing when and what to remove is important.

2 & 3 pretty much require the tuners skill and knowledge.

The best I can suggest is call and speak to the tuner you are planning on using. Ask for references and see who forum members recommend.

I don't have a dog in this fight as I do all my own tuning. Stock & HRC ECU.

On Dano’s Performance tune, you just send him the ECU, he flashes the ECU, then send it back, then you reinstall the ECU? Or is there something else you half to do the motorcycle?

There is nothing else you have to do other than re-install the ECU after he flashes it.
