I have the same issue drope that spring in the oil pan. Is it fine to keep the spring in the pan and order a new spring?

Do not leave hardware in the oil pan, you will grenade your motor. Get a retractable magnet and try to fish it out (this worked on my old gsxr). Worst case, drain the oil and drop the oil pan.
