I am building a race bike from my stock RR-R.....has anyone removed the electronic steering lock on their street bike? The bolts on mine are staked....I am not certain that is the correct term....basically the bolts were purposely rounded to prevent their removal. I presume in an effort to make the bike harder to steal. On the race bike when using the HRC ecu the IMU is moved to this area just behind the top triple clamp.

@eagletangogreen I know you installed the race ecu, do you recall how you dealt with removal of these two bolts?

Cut a slot with a dremel and use a flat blade screwdriver to remove them. Or an "easy-out" drill bit. I had similar bolts on my Aprilia Dorsoduro which I had to remove to fit a steering damper. (I went the dremel/screwdriver route.)

These are the same steering lock bolts on every Fireblade. It's an M8 bolt with a spiral pattern cut into the threads to make it dig into the aluminum.

You can remove by using a T-40 Torx bit. Use a few light taps of a mallet to seat it in then you can just drive it out. No need to cut bolt. I also tried a standard hex driver and that worked too.

All else fails lug nut extractor hammer it on and twist it out it's in a easy location on your bike.

T45 solved the problem for me, thanks for the tips @09_Blade and @rule62 - I used a 3 lbs hammer and pounded the T45 into the existing bolt and was able to remove it without any drama. Interesting the bike actually resonates at Ab.

@Arno #73 I removed the ESL because I am using the HRC harness and ECU and that relocates the IMU to the place where the ESL is placed on the oem bike. Removing the bolts won't cause a dash error but removing the ESL entirely probably will.
