Not going to happen man, don't worry about it. The flapper had nothing to do with keeping water out. The flap was closed under like 5k rpm, which wouldn't have helped anyway.

It was for noise.
OK, so I do not have to worry that water will come inside. Thanks man,
it stays open when the bikes off n-e-way, only in gear it works..
yeah that was one of the first things I did to my 04. Never had a problem with it in 5 years and counting...

I also noticed a huge increase in gas milage. Probably 30-40 more miles per tank but I don't ride agressively.
Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly does the flapper mod do for the bike? I would think it is there for a reason.
It's used to reduce the ambient noise level in order to pass EPA.

They regulate how much noise the vehicle can make at a given RPM.

That is it? It only makes the bike louder if you remove the flapper?

No, because the flap is closing the majority of the snorkle then by removing it you are increasing airflow letting the bike breath!

I guess I don’t fully understand the operating specs of the flapper. The way I understand it is the flapper is closed until the throttle is opened up. It moves to let more air in when the throttle is applied letting the air flow match the fuel flow. So I don’t see why giving the bike the opportunity to suck more air in at lower RPM is a plus if it can’t ingest the extra amount anyways. Like using a beer bong to nurse a beer. Sure the possibility for more flow is there, but if all you are doing is sipping on it why have the bong in the first place. I’m not opposed to the mod and will probably do it at some point I just want to get a full understanding on why I’m removing stuff like that.

take a minute and search around about the flapper mod you will find everything you are curious about and how it works and exactly what it does. basically it isnt open until your bike is hitting 5-6000 RPMS so when you remove it. its open all the time giving your bike the ability to breathe better in the low RPM range

I googled it and found a post from another forum that went into it pretty in depth. I appreciate the info from you guys and I’m sure I will have more questions in the future. :google:
