How to tell if its s/o or full system?

1203 Views 11 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  4BillionDollarMan
When dealing with akrapovic pipes, what are the easiest ways to tell if its just a slip on or the full system? (after its already installed on the bike). Will there be markings or indicators on the headers, etc? Just wondering, can't always take the seller's word for it...

edit: fyi, dealing with an 06 RR specifically. Thanks.

Full systems have a carbon fiber heat sheild that say akrapovic on the right side by your leg and all the spring clips on the headers say akrapovic just look underneath the bike. Oh and :welcomesign:

Good point. Also if it is a Titanium setup the headers will be a different color. Plus you can tell the difference from a Akrapovic Header and a Stock header:thumbsup:
Pull off the canister and downpipe. Stick a long straw or some fish tape down there. Itf it hits something, that's that catalytic converter.....slip-on. Or just get it dynoed.

Usually OEM headers look pretty nasty compared to aftermarket on most bikes you will see some kind of flapper joint infront of the muffler
The Akky full system will have unique bends in the header due to hydroforming to help push the exhuast through the bends.

Ask the old owner. Hopefully he's got some maintainence history w/the bike.
stock vs. quality

other than the visual by a trained eye. most replacement headers have a flange bolted to the cylinder head that the pipes slip over and are held with a spring. the stock unit its all one piece

Unless you live anywhere in the U.S. other than Cali. No converter on 49 state bikes.

+ 1000
look for the springs (2 per cylinder)
