Yes, flipping the shift rod accomplishes the task... but you will need to cut/modify the sprocket cover, or remove it entirely (not recommended by some).

I flipped my shifter and in GP shift it won’t shift from first to second without the clutch. After that all gears shift without the clutch. Has anyone seen this before?

did you ever get an answer to this question? I have an OEM quick shifter and I flipped the top of the shift rod over on the gear and I have the same issue. do you have a quick shifter?
