so i recently moved south to Florida and got my dream bike...an 04 cbr1000rr. its the only bike that really catches my eye, i love soild colors with limited stickers so i got a nice all black cbr. i picked it up for about 5k with 6500miles on her, body plastics and all were in imaculate condition. despite what many people said i learned on the 1000 and ride almost everyday, getting better and better. one of the biggest concerns i had was the fact that i weight a little less than 140 and i know a bigger bike probably wasnt best. i didnt want to drop her or scratch her because she was in such cherry shape. anyways i love the bike and wouldnt trade her. i wash and polish and maintain the bike just as i got it the day i brought her home.

and now for the current news...

so a couple of nights ago im laying on the couch with my gf and i hear a knock at the door. i look thru the eye hole and see a pizza delivery driver, i open the door. she tells me she was pulling into my parking space and didnt see my bike and knocked her over. i freaked and went out to take a look. she said she just tapped it but it was almost under a truck that it was parked next to. so with her "little tap" she damaged every piece of plastic (somewhere), broke that screw that sticks out of the drivers peg and damaged the drivers and passengers pegs, the tip of the front break lever is ground down along with the rear peg that holds the rear stand, and the tip of the handle grip on the throttle- the end of the grip where theres the plastic knob screwed it broke off completly with some of the bolt still inside.

so with all of this i got all her info, filled a claim with her insurance. she was beggin me not to call it in like i was going to take that hit. the insurance compnay told me since she was working they werent going to cover it. so i had to raise telephone hell with the pizza place to get them to fix the bike. so now im waiting for a specialist to come and check all the damages on my bike.

should there be anything i should know prior to this inspection? i wanted to know since that throttle end is broken off does it make the bike un ride-able? they want me to ride the bike to the local honda dealership which is about 4miles away. i think they should cover a tow to the shop, is that asking too much?

1st time dealing with this any advice would be appreciated...thanks to all!

Doesn't sound like anything you can't fix yourself. Have the insurance company pay you full list for all the broken parts. Fix them at home (with advice from .net) get some chinese plastics and spend the rest on performance upgrades. You're makin' out like a bandit...you just don't know it yet! Don' ride the bike until the functional stuff is fixed though! Dremel around the bolt to get a grip, then twist it out with some pliers. Good time for after-market reasets, kiskstand is easy to find or repair if you know a good welder.

This is good advice if your good with a wrench and trust your work. But if a shop fixes it and it's not correct the blame falls on them.

Plus, they might find additional damage during the repair process. Who's gonna pay you if you have already "cashed out?"

i didnt order the pizza lol. she hit my bike and asked the people who she delivered the pizza to whose bike it was and they brought her to my apartment. the insurance company is progressive. the franchaise owner called me today to get my address and other info to give to his insurance company and gave me the number to his insurance agent, which i have to call first thing tmrw. i was talking to someone today that i know and they mentioned something about a sled? i guess it checks for any frame warpage or back tire warpage?
no money for lawyers so i hope it just works out with the pizza company im sure they wouldnt want anymore problems with this and im sure its pretty straight forward im sure a delivery driver has had an accident while on the road. i just dont really trust this insurance company to handle the work, i would rather have it done by Honda dealership...do i have to go to their place or do i have an option?

I had someone plow into my car a couple years ago. Their insurance paid for it, and YES, absolutely, repaired by the dealer with original parts. That's usually how it works. Good luck.

The insurance company isn't gonna handle the repairs, the dealership will handle the repairs. As far as her insurance not wanting to cover her because she was working is iffy at best. Some insurance companies ask if the vehicle will be used for work and if she said no and then used it to deliver pizza, she violated her insurance policy.

get ready for the shop to total your bike out... I only say this from experience, when my truck came to life.. (see Christine thread) and ran my bike over.. i went through a similar ordeal.. when all i REALLY needed was a fairing stay nose cowl and tail cowl but had minor scuffs on the case cover etc. (and custom paint)... might play out in your favor though especially if you can buy it back fromthe insurance company for UBER CHEAP you'd have a pretty badass track bike.

Sorry to hear about your bike getting nailed. The good side is that she didn't sneak away after knocking it down and you weren't hurt. I don't have any recent (luckily) experience with the insurance companies but I would expect the bike to be totaled given the cost of replacement parts... Good luck and let us know how it turns out for you.

You need to notify your own insurance company so they fight her insurance for you.
Yep^^
And dont just settle, if your not satisfied. You did nothing wrong.
Make them put it back like it was,and dont settle for anything less.
I got a bum shoulder from a car/bike collision, that still bothers me today.
Z-28 cleaned me out on my bike, and I let the insurance company bully me
into a settlement. It wasnt enough to fix the bike,or me.

i ended up getting $2300 for damages and labor cost total. i was thinking of having the honda dealership replace the pegs and throttle grip and keeping the rest of the money...about $2k and buying one of those abs china plastic kits on ebay for $500. can anyone comment on these, i know it wont be like what i can get thru honda but it puts like $1400+ in my pocket. is it really difficult to swap these out? i have alot of automotive knowledge and repair skill so i think i can remove a hundred allenhead bolts if its that easy.

I work in the auto-body industry/insurance industry as a estimator, so let me give you some advice and well as others that are reading:

The Notion that the victim in a collision or comprehensive damage claim should NOT call there insurance is ridiculous. All day I review damage on cars that drive in and the customer has never called there OWN insurance company for fear they are going to hear something that they don't want to. Fallacies that their rates will go up, their record will be tarnished etc. All it does is waist time, especially yours and sometimes it gets a little frustrating. Your insurance is obligated to repair your vehicle in a timely manor to satisfy the BOI.
It's NOT your fault, especially if you have statement or Police report of the incident stating who's at fault, and witness's. Call YOUR insurance company immediately to let them know what is going on. if you call them LATE after someone says they are going to pay the bill out of pocket falls through, or their boot leg insurance drags their feet, statements change and story's get twisted because dishonest stupid people have time to think about making up BS stories. Don't call Their insurance. EVER. Its not yours. Your pay your premiums for a reason to you chosen insurance. Call your insurance company.

and i bet you took it out on her and made her feel like an ass. you're lucky she had the moral character to find out what it was she hit and then find out who owned it and speak up for what she did. not trying to attack you man but you got REAL lucky. 98% of people wouldn't have done what she did for you and you are lucky to even deal with the insurance company. on the plus side, just get a quote from the Hnda dealer on all the parts that need to be replaced, then Ebay/craigslist all your parts, get some Chinese plastics, and spend the rest on some mods. you're gonna make bank. when my bike was backed into by a fedex truck i got over 3500 to repair it. i only spent 1500ish and got lots of mods. good luck
