Little smoke.. Burning oil or fuel?

I was out ridin with some friends today around town and I went to clutch up a wheelie and one of them noticed a puff of black smoke. No one else noticed it after the one time but when I rev the bike I get a little stream of white smoke. The bike just rolled 400 miles and it's all stock except for flapper mod. I have a PCV, auto tune, zbomb, and Jardine on the way but i'm not going to put money into this bike it's going to burn oil.

What do you guys think? I'm just a little bothered by all the posts that I have read about the bikes burning oil.. Mine is an 09 btw.

Sorry to post this guys i'm just a little concerned. I know this has been an on going subject. If it's going to be an oil burner i'm going to get rid of it now.
What's the temp there? Are you sure it's not the white smoke that comes out when the weather is cold?
don"t you think you might be over reacting....400 miles its still a virgin mate.
Black smoke= overfueling. White smoke when cold outside is just humidity showing up in the cold air, White smoke all the time is coolant in the combustion gas, blue smoke is oil being burnt. Your probably over reacting. Ride it, warranty is backing you up.
I just wanted to make sure. It was 52 F today. I know it's low miles, just wanted to make sure before I do a lot to the bike and end up with a problem. Don't mean to over react just a little nervous with this bike after what I've read.
you've heard it right. any oil residue on the tip of the pipe .. /?

No residue and oil level is still perfect.
My 08 Blade was burning oil. I sued Honda and won. I got my money back and then I bought a brand new "Revised" 08 Blade. How do I know if it's revised? Honda put a dot under the last digit of bike's serial number (Look behind the forks on the chassis) which means some parts has changed in the engine block. Honda claims I won't have the problem but I have 1000km on the taco and the exhaust tip got already black (Which I had on my 08). I will wait and see. If same thing happens again I will sue once more :stirpot:

This "dot" you are talking about is only there because of the clutch update.
That's what I heard...
Black soot around the exhaust tip doesn't mean its burning oil, it doesn't mean the engine is running bad, it doesn't really mean very much at all.

My 600RR has quite a black exhaust tip and she doesn't consume a drop, runs strong as an oxe. Stock fuel injection, stock exhaust.

I agree.. The moisture from the exhaust will spray black all over the tip. I was just wondering about the puff of black smoke.

Sure it doesn't. However, once you clean it totally, you have it back let's say after 300-400 km. I had the smoke, I had the whining noise, I was burning oil. I had everything, but still I love 08-09. I just mentioned the exhaust tip because it is the easiest way to recognize a problematic RR.
I have a whining noise but I believe it is normal. My buddies zx10 makes the same noise
My bike did the same thing last week when I reved it up at a stop sign. I also have about 400 miles and it was 60 degrees that day. I have little black dots of soot on my exhaust, but I dont think its burning any oil. As of right now I hope I dont have anything to worry about- Im just concerned with all of the horror storys about burning oil.
u sure its the bike not u!!
I love it when people make comments like this on the internet! :thefinger:

That's all I was concerned about. All the stories make ya paranoid. I've only owned Honda bikes since I was 16 so I didn't want to switch brands. All my race quads have been Yamaha but I've always liked the Honda bikes.

At the factory or the dealer punches a dot after doing the update?
