Melting lower fairing prevention

3447 Views 15 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  2006cbr
Hey i have an aftermarket set of fairings and the lowers started to melt a little bit. The company i got them from shipped me out the new lowers to replace these free of charge. They come with a little "heat pad" on both of them but this was on them before when they melted also. it basically seems like a piece of foam with a piece of tin foil over it...anyway the new ones came with this also should i remove this and put the DEI reflective tape on? or should i just apply the DEI reflective tape over top of this? TIA

because i was asking about keeping the foam pad that comes with the fairings from the aftermarket company i bought them from or not. im not sure if it will affect the DEI reflective tape from working or not. I realize that the ceramic coating or wrapping the headers with the tape will work better but i wanted to see if it could just be done with the reflective tape or not...i had it on the ones that melted before but didnt put it on until after they had started melting and it seemed to work fine with my stock headers. so im trying to take that route. if you guys really think that it wont and i will need to wrap them with the tape also then i will do that also. I just didnt want to spend the money to wrap them if i dont have to. sorry i didnt clear that up before

no i was just trying to hold off on doing that. Ive also never taken my headers off and not 100% sure about doing so by myself...

It was a joke. Use both the adhesive material and the header wrap. There are quite a few posts on the how-to.
i know i was just trying to clear up what i meant by it, thanks tho
Just tape on the lowers will not help.Ive seen my stockers upgraded with reflective heat tape still want to "burn"..

Not worried about the few ponies a aftermarket header will bring,so i found someone elses take off stock header (25.00 shipped) and having it coated as we speak..That way i can ride while the header is being coated.. Plus a coated header is worth a pony or two due to the flow of the hot gases and heat not making it back into the engine.

Your having the jet hot done?
Also i was at advanced today and saw that DEI makes a spray too. would this work as good as the wrapping? it would look a lot better IMO???

stockbridge,ga ..Mine is done in black(cant see it anyway)..total cost of the coating(inside and out) and finding a good used header 150.00 ..Most "wrap kits" are going to run you 75.00+, take out the cost for using your own header(if you dont mind down time) coating cost 130.00- 5 day turn around.
