At approx. 15k miles my stator is toast. Took off work 1/2 day yesterday to meet a buddy and ride since warm days will get scarce soon. Met him north of Lexington in Georgetown. Gassed up and hit the start button and would not turn over. The Honda dealer was right around the corner so I went in and gave him the VIN and he said my VIN fell into the recall. Thank goodness as I have noticed the bike not turning over like it should lately. My battery is only 5-6 weeks old so I know its good. Fuckered up my whole day but at least it will get fixed.

I do have one question? A friend and former service mgr at a Honda dealer told me that I should get the rectifier checked also because the when the stator spikes the open current diodes do not fair well. If this happens the new stator will ultimately fail. Any experience with this?
What year is the recall on? I have an 04' thanks

If stator is fried and burnt, it's caused by old shunt-circuit RR that runs stator at 100% full time.

Very common problem on Ducatis and Aprilias with same solution

Best to upgrade your RR to latest series-circuit with SH-847 regulator. It only draws as much current from stator as needed by bike's electronics rather than driving it at 100% like old shunt-circuit regulators. Startor runs so much cooler and doesn't short out. RR itself is also much cooler and you can touch it after a ride!!!
