Riding Form

2068 Views 16 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  savvy1k
Hey guys and gals, I just finished a nice ride up Telegraph Rd Sunday in San Diego. The guy near the top takes pics of all the nice bikes and cars that ride up that way. I was wondering what everyone considers proper riding form. Is there one form that is the best. I have been reading and watching a lot about good riding form and was wondering what everyone thought. I added a few pics of myself that were taken so even though it may be hard to see everything I am doing, let me know what you think.

On the street, more "body English" vs lean angle would seem to be favorable. The farther over you are, the less you suspension works. Being on the unpredictable public road, you'd want to keep some lean angle and lean angle in reserve.
Street /canyon line I late apex and wait till I see the exit of the turn to apex. I find not crowding my line early leaves room for the jack a muffins that always seem to use the "whole road".

Looks good, maybe comment on jeans in the canyon...or not

I know, I am looking into buying a full suit as soon as possible. I just do not know which suit to get. I do not quite have the exact body style for most suits. I am 5'10" and a bit on the heavier side. So I have not exactly found the right suit for me yet. Actively looking though. If anyone has a suggestion about what suit to go with, I will take comments on that too.
Road looks nice, I'm moving to the San Diego area mid May.
You're in jeans - you can't get correct riding form (which is to say, do whatever you want in jeans, you're never going fast enough for it to really matter).

You're definitely looking through the turn, and not holding back on that leading inside shoulder, looks good...

... but jeans? ;)

Oh, and about the suits - I find that most come a little on the 'heavy' side - I'm 6'3" 185lbs and had to have my Alpinestars suit tailored to take a BUNCH out of the middle, because it was bunching up around the tank. Find a retailer with a good return policy, and start guessing sizes.

Hey bro, I saw your bike up there at Potrero at the restaurant as I was leaving after eating breakfast. I had the red 08, if you happened to notice it. It has a Taylormade pipe on it. Do you ride with that big group?

Edit - Maybe it wasn't you. I think the silver 08 I saw at the restaurant had a stock exhaust.

It really is a fun road. It is the ride I do most often. Hit me up with a PM when you get in town if you want to go for a ride.

Dont think I remember seeing you. There were a lot of 08's up there that day that I didnt see until looking at the pics posted on Hwy94Photo.com. I was just in a three man group this time. Normally I ride with about 5 guys. Who do you ride with?

I usually ride every Sunday. I think we are going up there again this Sunday. I will try and PM you with the details. We might be doing Julian as well.
You have a good start with the A* jacket. Get the track pants which zip together and you can get the correct size for you! This is a cost effective option that works for playing a little harder on the weekend and you can zip off for the commute....

Yeah, my pic numbers are 270 and 455 on hwy94photo, frm Sunday. Had my girl on the back. I am solo a lot of the times, or have my girl on the back, but do know a bunch of guys that ride in a big group on Sundays.

Def let me know. I heard Jason Britton and Superbikes is going to be at House of Motorcycles on Sat, so we may go check out his stunt show, but Sunday sounds good for a real ride.

If you're not worried about looking cool, you could go for an Aerostitch one-piece. They can customize all dimensions to make it fit, they have tons of pockets to store stuff, and you can slip them on and off in 30 seconds and fit over your normal clothes. I wear my 'stich on the road and have 1-pc Spidi leathers for the track.

Aerostitch is good stuff - comfortable, not THAT expensive, and breathes well. I had one for a year or so when I was commuting to and from work with a business suit on underneath lol - you guys ever try riding with a tie? It's murder!

They're not as good for going fast or dragging knee as a 'real' race suit, and certainly do make you look like a total and complete tool - which is why I eventually ditched that job :th_SmlyROFL:
So to sum this thread up, its better to hang off the bike through the canyons to save suspension and provide more traction because the bike is not so leaned?
Elbow to knee and kiss the mirror.....

Thats what I was taught for the longest. You don't look bad at all.

Pretty much...and wear pants.
