Hellow to all, its been a long time but I have somthing on my mind. I sold my 08 L.E. after it was rebuilt and not to my expectations (high oil cosumption) it got rings and a new piston. it was never the same after that it, went in at 3800 miles. although it didnt use oil anymore it just didnt have the same zip and it loped at idle, I lost over 4000 dollars on this bike.
Here is my point I have been shopping for another as I still want this version, since Honda wont just come out and tell there loyal customers when they resolved the ring problem and what oil is proper for this bike it concerns me deeply when there are so many 08s out there for sale and out of warranty
with low milage, could I be buying a bigger problem buying a bike like this. it seems to me people are dumping them in mass if you look at Cycle Trader and ebay, this is driving down the showroom price of the 08s as well and the overall value of this bike new or resale.
We have only Honda to blame for this due to there lack of transperancy no one really knows which 08s are affected, I think Honda's aproch to this has been all wrong.
So Ill throw it out there "SHOULD YOU BUY AN 08 RR OUT OF WARRANTY"

Hey buddy,
how can an 08 blade be out of warranty ?, think you get three years with the manufacturers.

I think you answered your own question already. Steer clear. There are still some 06 and 07 bikes about. A host of aftermarket parts and a respectable following can insure that you should have some fun with it!!!!
Should you buy an 08 RR out of warranty
No buy an '09 in warranty.

In the U.S., we only get a 1 year manufacturer warranty with the bike. We do have the option of buying an additional 4 years for ~$400.

did you buy the extra warranty?
for that matter does anyone
did you buy the extra warranty?
Yes, I bought the 4 year extended warranty for $400 on ebay. $100/year was cheap insurance for me at the time considering the indications of possible problems and first model year bugs. In addition, I think it will help sell the bike when and if it comes time to trade up to the V4 RC61.
I am not sure about how much it cost to extend the factory Honda warranty.I have heard its 300 for the first year and 200. for each one after. I wonder if the one you bought on ebay is a "Honda" warranty or an aftermarket? also you can only extend the factory warranty while the original is still in force not after not by one day if you miss it. if your dealer didnt offer and you dont know you can screw yourself real quick. thats why I sold mine when I did it had 6 mo. left . Hondas used white gaget sealer on the engine so It was obvious it had been apart so I decided to sell it under warrranty and devulge it had been opened up. with 1500 dollars of goodies I still only got 8500 for it. I probably will get a 09 with a full extension and Honda is going to work with me or they can work with my attorney. guys dont you wonder what it will be like at the end of the season with all the 08s getting sold out of warranty. the bike will get a worse rep. no one wants an 08 thats smoking like a Florida mosquito truck in the summer.
Is anyone as mad at for Honda bringing down the price of these bikes by not resolving the problem? they drug there feet and now many of those "first run bikes are out of warranty and they dont have to deal with it (NICE ONE)
It will affact the overall price of any 08 and probably the 09 as well. Im still wondering why more people arent more upset about this.

IF YOU BUY AN 08 OUT OF WARRANTY YOUR ON YOUR OWN IF IT STARTS SMOKING. HONDA WILL NOT HELP YOU "GLADLY"

we only get 1 year in the states do you guys get 3 years on a new Honda across the pond?
I wonder if the one you bought on ebay is a "Honda" warranty or an aftermarket?
It is the Honda Protection Plan. $400 for 4 years of additional coverage. Honda sent me the card and associated paperwork so if it was a fake it fooled Big Red. I wouldn't spend my money on an aftermarket warranty.

I don't know if I agree with your assumption that the bikes are going to be flooding the market due to an "oil burning" problem. It may just be down to the economic situation and the fact that for the vast majority of owners sportbikes are a luxury and not a necessity. So when times get tough, the bikes get sold.

Your experience aside, what evidence is there of resale being harmed by any perception of the '08 as compared to the resale of other makes of the same model year and class?

I realize you had a bad ownership experience but if you are anything, you are cynical.

I don't know about that. Sportbikes aren't investments. None of them hold their value.

Im still wondering why more people arent more upset about this.
I'm wondering why if you got so burned by Honda the first go round, you are considering another of the same.

R1, GSXR1000, ZX10R, 1198, S1000RR, RC8, RSV4 ... so many choices other than Honda.

My mistake, we get two years.

I still love the bike just dont want one thats burning oil in 3000 miles, or one that will, or one that has been torn apart, I want what I paid for. its supposed to be reliable its a honda. now what else do you have to say, if you think Honda has done right by people then you must either be a dealer or one of the people that can afford to take a big loss on a new bike or they cater to you and you get a new one like some people did. thats what bothers me , it all depends on the realationship you have with Honda and the dealer as to how they aproch the warranty, instead of treating everyone the same that has the same problem. thats discrimination. I am talking to an attorney about a class action lawsuite simular to the 2 that are going on against the Goldwing. go to class action world.com. ... 08 OWNERS UNITE FOR WHATS RIGHT. demand honda recall or replace every 08 that burns oil, or sounds like its comming apart.

Get a '07 looks way better and has no problems.
I personally would be a little afraid to get one out of warranty. I've had zero problems with mine so far but you never know.
how long have you had it ? how many miles and do you consider yourself a hard rider.
You can have my 08 with 300 miles on it that I just purchased so the bike is in full warranty until next year for $8497.00 if you want it?
I still love the bike just dont want one thats burning oil in 3000 miles, or one that will, or one that has been torn apart
How are you going to know if another '08 or an '09 isn't going to burn oil? I haven't read any press releases from Honda stating "oil burning problem fixed!".

I want what I paid for.
Of course you do. As does any consumer. Honda has apparently failed to deliver what you expected so go with another manufacturer. All of the modern liter bikes are great machines.

its supposed to be reliable its a honda.
The whole Honda reliability thing is more legend than fact in recent history. '04-'05 stator problems, '06-'07 fuel tanks, '08-'09 oil burning.

now what else do you have to say
The only thing I have to say is ... fool me once, shame on you ... fool me twice, shame on me.

I am talking to an attorney about a class action lawsuite simular to the 2 that are going on against the Goldwing.
I wish you nothing but luck in that endeavor.

Get a '07 looks way outdated

and has no problems.
If you consider a leaking gas tank no problems.

This is so f....up, I dont want to go to another manufactor I want what anyone wants when they put there money on the table. "WHAT THEY PAID FOR" I paid cash for mine and even that seems to have worked against me. some are telling me to move on to another bike, is that because I am angry with Honda and think they are wrong in the way they are less than honest and treat there customers different when it comes to warranty over the same issue......... there is a consumer law new on the books, its called the secret warranty law, it says that a manufactor can not respond to warranty differently based on a consumer relationship. in other words if it blows oil and the give one a new motor and one a rebuilt it against the law, if they extend the warranty for one they have to do it for all with the same problem. some people got new bikes and are very happy, some got new motors almost as happy. some after the repair got there warranty extended, some got a rering in the back of the shop a slap on the back and white gasget sealer on the whole motor for icing on the cake

why dont you want it and what color is it?

That was pretty much settled when you sold the bike. I am not a lawyer but I don't believe you have any recourse in that matter.

I assume you work hard for your money and you have every right to be pissed. If it were me that had been burned, I would be looking elsewhere even if I preferred the '08-'09 bike just because I cannot afford to take the risk, and would want to avoid the aggrevation, of getting another lemon.
why dont you want it and what color is it?
candy red and silver: I simply will not have any time to ride it.
