slight ticking noise

9183 Views 11 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  lakaiguy
I just bought my second bike, an 04 1kRR and I freaking love it! My first bike was a CBR600F2 that I bought eight months ago.

Anyways there is a slight ticking noise coming from the engine, it sounds like lifters or valves. Im just wondering if this is normal or if I should get it checked out?

Thanks

do you know what the maintenance history is like it would be worth looking into.
and grats on the new ride.
prob not a big deal. then again..........
congrats on the bike.

does the engine continue to "tick" after its warmed up?
almost every vehicle i've owned, bikes included, has ticked a little off and on. no serious issues with any.
congrats on the bike.

Yeah it does pretty constantly

I did get some records with the bike but nothing showed any serious maintenance done.

Its very faint but because i'm coming from a noisy little cbr F2 I listen for these things, but if it was normal I'm sure you all would have noticed it
well ive got an 06 and ive noticed a "clicking" or "ticking" sometimes right when i start her up but it seems to go away after the engine warms up.

but if youre really paranoid about it get it checked out.
If it's a light ticking noise you're probably listening to the cams. The reason why you hear it is due to the design of the Fuel Tank/Air Box on the 04+ CBR1000RR's. Most previous designs had the fuel tank covering over the head of the engine and the metal of the tank + fuel would dampen the sound of the cams to the rider. This is no longer the case so you get more of the cam noise coming though.

If it is a more mid to lower sound, get it checked out cause it could be your Main Crank Bairing. If that craps itself like my 04 Friday bike did, then you have to replace the engine. Just my experience.
my o6 always makes a loud ticking noise while warming up but then goes away.
Soon as you think you hear something you will always be trying to hear it,use some ear plugs.....but if your unsure get it checked for sure.
I have an 06 with 22000 miles...and mine ticks lightly even after warmed up. Ive heard that hondas have a noisy valve train. Hasnt gotten any louder over the years and sure hasnt lost any performance either. Had the valves cheched at 16000 and they were spot on. I bet your good to go, but since there hasnt been any real maint. done on the bike would be a good idea to check it out anyway
they all seem to make that sound i have 3 friends with 1krr's and everyone of our bikes makes that sound. just part of the building process i guess my 06yz450f knock really bad but thats just how they come from the factory like that.
awesome, thanks everyone for your input I feel much better now

the bike has just over 17k miles so I will get the 16k service done soon

THIS BIKE IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!
