So, to start I know the subframe has material removed, I know the manual says not to modify... but they would also say not to remove mirrors, use aftermarket air cleaners or modify rear signal brackets... but people do. So my question is, has anyone actually attempted to carry a passenger by rethreading peg mount holes and adding seat. I ask because I have read a forum where someone said they bought an SP subframe for their standard RR but rethreaded for passenger pegs. The person never replied to my question if it was successful..... or did the bike end up eating a passenger between tire and swingarm and spit out some hamburger because the subframe buckled. Joking aside, has anyone put weight on rear of SP subframe or have personal experience with the attempt?? Thank you in advance.

If you want to carrie a passenger you got the wrong model, the rear subframe will not handle a passenger, you will need to get a rear subframe from the regular model. By the way is a lot more different things between the SP and the regular model.

I know there are more differences than just the subframe. My point is, everyone says it cannot handle a passenger.. but I have yet to meet someone who says they have tried and it failed. If everyone said we can't breath underwater, but no one has ever drowned.. How could you be sure? I'm looking for someone with actual experience. And the reason I ask is because I have seen someone modify the SP frame for a passenger, but never got a follow up about it.. I mean also consider a 120lbs passenger is much different than 200lbs of love in the back, so that would also be a factor of the question I suppose.

I've seen it done. A guy on instagram has done it. I wouldn't recommend it though

I have seen 3 people put the passenger pegs on, one guy with a website Repsolfanatic, one guy on 1000rr.co.uk and I forget the 3rd. I have messaged them directly and asked if they had any issues but never got replies. I have not heard anyone say that it buckled under the weight... Also have not heard them say it didn't lol. Before I try, which I think I'm going to, I would like to hear some personal feedback with people who have.. good, bad or indifferent.

I have put on an SP subframe but never fitted passenger pegs.

I had seen your website and you say your new subframe had the pegs rethreaded, but not that you had actually carried a passenger. Thank you for the clarification.

Hi guys,
New to the forum and owner of a 2015 Repsol Sp.
Hoping I can get some feedback on this mod and how it has worked out so far?
I also want the ability of carrying a pillion and considering this mod.
Thanks in advance.

I have done the full modification now, and have had my girl on the back for at least 1000 miles with no issues thus far (she's about 120lbs). It is a pretty labor intensive job I will not lie to you. I recommend the way most people remove their passenger pegs to get to the holes, and that is to split the subframe over trying to remove the whole thing. You will need to helicoil the left side peg holes since Honda drills the left side out, the right side is still threaded. Also what you will find NOWHERE written is the fact the SP has a different seat lock bracket that stops a pillion seat from being able to be pushed down to lock. You will see a tab sticking up on yours the regular CBR doesn't have. If you are serious about the job I can help with any questions.

Sidenote: this is not me saying the mod is safe, only that I have done it.

When I put my leather saddle bags on with the full touring pack I'll concern myself with structural integrity. Though I wonder if taking off my reflectors would help me look cool. All the documented deaths from subframes buckling compared to the non-existent amount of deaths from cars not seeing motorcycles.. really tells me it's safer to remove the reflectors.

Nope, not at all.. still have mine. Just think cocky memes in response to someone answering a question about a mod they are thinking about doing, from a person who as actually does it and has experience goes against the point of the forum. I never told the person I'd carry a dump truck on the back or that I'd go against Honda's warnings. I simply said I have done it and have had no issues with a lighter girl on the back. I love the SP subframe, I like riding my girl.. I was the second confirmed person to do the mod and have heard of noone try it and the subframe giving out. But people want to talk safety like it's their number one priority, but removing things.. that help other drivers see them at night.. because they are ugly, makes that kinda moot. Put Big Bertha on the back of the factory subframe and it can buckle just the same.
