my order at opp was canceled because they don't have them yet. thinking of getting these...anybody have them or have any experience with them?....or would the opp carbon's be better?

The ones from Taylormade are AMA approved race spec ultrathin fiberglass...

They will be lighter than OPP, thinner than OPP, but I cannot speak to the interior smoothness vs. OPP, but the fact that the race teams use them should say something about their quality.

AMA has outlawed carbon fiber bits for '09...
fiberglass is silly

carbon is much stiffer and stronger then glass. the only reason for glass is for cost savings, glass does nothig better

$400 is steep

I have bought OPP intakes for the R1, not bad really in carbon and some clear they are fine

they have outlawed it to keep costs down i think, nothig else. same reason BST's are not allowed

race teams use whatever they are paid to use or they get for free FWIW

sato and arata are clearly some of the best exhausrt yet none of them are on race bikes, why?
because they're not just going to give their shit away! i've seen sato on just a couple race bikes. akrapovic just seems to enjoy tossing money at the teams. of course, it's helped them a lot for advertising purposes

As you know...the amount of material in either carbon fiber or fiberglass is not where the cost of these parts is really coming from especially with the type of glass Taylormade uses and the small size of the parts...it's the labor to build them... the same whether you are doing fiberglass or carbon fiber.

Racers would pay the same for C/F for this part as the glass, so the cost savings is not there... but AMA in their infinite wisdom would have you believe fiberglass saves money.

The finish is not an issue for racers either, but these are very clean inside where it matters and outside where it doesn't.

I'm not questioning the quality of anybody else's stuff, but merely stating what you get for the money with Taylormade...AMA approved race parts.

Somebody could do these in ABS and they would be a hell of a lot cheaper...but you have to build the mold, then construct the tooling...there is cost in every process somewhere... and you'd have to sell a lot of parts to recover the non-recurring engineering.

so can anyone tell me if someone who doesnt race gets these air tunnels.. is it worth it?

No.

It's like many other mods we non-racers do... totally unnecessary, but worth it to the person who does it...

Technically, by replacing the stock tunnels with clean aftermarket tunnels you will get much bigger potential airflow, but would only be able to take advantage of that airflow if you also can tune the bike with more fuel flow to match...hence the PCIII / PCV mod you see many do.

The other elements in the formula are an exhaust than can push out that extra air/fuel once spent, and then internal engine bits that can further take advantage of the external changes.

Like racers...it's about how much you can afford...

Is it worth it...that's highly subjective...
ahh i got ya.. well i plan on puttin a Akra full exhaust and the PC V probably.. and take it to get it tuned or see if the auto tuner is good enough.. sorry didnt mean to steal the thread
got my taylormade air tunnels today. installed them. i don't have any of the mounting screws for the piece under the headlights...how do i mount them? right now i'm just using double sided sticky tape...
Anyone tried sebimotos air tunnels? Found them for 185€ which seems quite a steal compared to taylormades? And does these replacement tunnels do the flapper mod as well?
