bank angle sensor question

made my own bracket for BAS and headlight harness for track set up. Im happy with it but had to put it off to the one side to clear the plug for gauge/dash

***Does it need to be in middle/center???

I didnt think it matters but now im not sure. I dont need a shut off at the track in a turn.... so I thought Id ask.
I used a small level with bike on stands, so i know its level. Thanks for help

Ya got me. I'd think it would be fine since the original placement is held in with 2 eye glass screws.

The oem is dead center behind headlights. If i put mine in the center on my home made bracket, it would be rubbing on the rubber boot on the dash plug.
because the sensor is deeper than it looks in pic.

I put some bends in my bracket to clear the dash plug, a straight piece would not work.

found a pic of this one. not sure who makes it... but im sure its not worth the money.

But ya they got the BAS in the center. It dips down in a V shape to clear the plug for dash.

I got one of those. I use it on my race bike. It mounts the BAS where it is supposed to be mounted if you are running race plastics. The U in the center actually "cradles" the BAS and lets you mount in the correct direction.

As far as mounting to the side, I would avoid it. I have no hard evidence but without knowing how the BAS actually works I think you want the vertical center of the BAS to be in line with the vertical center line of the bike.

It doesn't need to be centered, just the same angle. You can start the bike up and test it by leaning it over to make sure it's not going to kill while you are in a corner.

I did not try that but i pulled a srew out of one side on the sensor and slowly tipped it down and it shut off at around id say 70 degrees. 90 being on its side completly down. So I think im ok??

I thought i heard something about it being different when the bike is in motion.. physics and angles, math and science.... technology. To much for small brain!

Because thats not safe. I want my bike to shut off in the case of a crash.
Not in a fire ball. who knows what could happen.... bike and i go into air fence with bike ontop of me with rear wheel doing a burn out on my face.:th_SmlyROFL:


i could have made another one by now... with BAS in the center of bracket,
but I dont have another piece of aluminum laying around. I was trying to spend 0 $ and use something I already had.

I know there's many opinions on the BAS but I'm nit convinced it's worth saving. I took mine off out of fear of shutting off without actually be laid down. But iv seen many down bikes over the years without them just stall out and didnt keep running. My buddies Ducati 998 kept running when he went down in the mountains. Don't even know if it had one or not. But I was able to stop get off my bike and run back to him and shut it off. Just my opinion.

I don't really think anything major would likely happen...
But I think they may require one with the track org I run with.

I think ill show the shop that's going to do my suspension and see
What they say about it.

It works based on angle, and the angle will be EXACTLY the same if it's a little off center. I won't bypass mine, it's there for a reason, and it's a good reason.

plan b

so i think i could have been ok with the original but I was bored so i made another one. Didnt take long and looks cleaner. BAS is now in the middle of my bracket dead center and level. :cool:

checked it on outside of bracket mounted up to see if it was level, then put it on inside of bracket.

downloaded this app (angle meter) it shuts off consistent on both sides at 60 degrees of lean. Id say im safe. I think my tires edge are aroung 50 degrees lean.

this is my spare harness and BAS. two bolts and unplug. This will be easy going from street to track now. Thanks for the feedback guys, thanks to you and being slow at work ive made up my mind. On to the next mod...

Put a shark guard on the swing arm to keep your toes out of
The chain and remount and safety wire the BAS to avoid the chain cutting your toes or
Fingers off

If the fuel pump primes with a bad BAS then what does it cut off, the spark, still trying to figure out why my bike won't start. My problem just happened overnight while the bike was sitting

If that is the case, that the BAS cuts off fuel and ignition, then the fact that my bike won't start and my pump primes, speedo sweeps, and all the lights on the dash light up. There must be something other than the BAS causing my no start problem. I've been reading posts on this no start problem, and there seems to be a lot of misinformation on this subject. All my fuses are good, voltage is good, all the obvious has been checked. Just can't find a straight answer about the BAS. I guess I'll give a Honda shop a call and see if anyone there can give me a straight answer.

Thanks for this, just stripped mine down, plugged in clocks etc, but she wouldn't fire up. Looks like I'm missing my BAS which is still attached to my road fairings. doh. Cheers, your picture solved it for me.
Whilst we're on the subject of track conversion, what did you do with your air intakes? Did you get some fiberglass or carbon tubes or can you bastardise the existing intakes?
